So there is a guy in Malibu that spots sharks w drone. As a community of surfers I think we should have a universal shark sign. Maybe have drone spin above shark to notify surfer that a shark is right there. Just an idea. Safety first

I think Malibu’s drone has writing on it about there being a shark in the water if he’s there, so people can read it. I recall hearing that in one of his videos, but double check me on it. Edit: it’s an image of a shark/ shark teeth per comments below 🦈

The sea is one of the most important things in my life. I will be 60 next month and I spent many, many hours each summer swimming in Southern California waters. Growing up there was awesome back then. Later, when my husband and I moved close to the Gulf of Mexico it was the same there. Many vacations spent in Hawaii and the Caribbean. Now we live in central Florida and split our time between the Atlantic and the Gulf Coasts. We see and swim with a ton of sea life. It’s not trying to hurt people. A life lived in fear is a life half-lived.

I’m sure surfers 🏄‍♀️ know the dangers and it’s part of the challenge and rush that they get from surfing. Never have myself, but I’ve seen people who thrive off of challenging danger at different stages. My own challenges have definitely changed over time, and I’ve crossed a lot off of my bucket list that I’ve realized are beyond my ability, but I still admire people who go 4 it. The 104 lady who crossed skydiving off of her bucket list and passed two weeks later is my hero, but I’m still not going regardless. I’m happy to watch. Enjoy yourself surfing. It’s a thrill to watch!!🏄‍♀️🏄🏄‍♂️🌊

Surfing is the ultimate feeling of connecting with Mother Earth and her oceans. The very first time you feel the ocean propelling you towards the beach you will likely be hooked. At least that was my experience. I became a wave junkie and sometimes I just had to have it feel better. The feeling of something lurking beneath you is definitely always there, although when the surf is pumpin’ that feeling subsides for awhile.

The next day a surfer was killed at the beach next to the one I was surfing at. You just have to understand sharks in the core of your being. Bells 🔔 Beach at Easter is not a wise move. Have a friend that owns a helicopter tour biz. I’ve been surfing & swimming in PCB’s waters most of my life & have always known that I wasn’t alone whenever I was out there. However, I have to say I was a bit shocked when he took me up & I got to see for myself just how close I’ve always been to being a menu option for them. We flew down the shoreline, from east to west & the amount of bull sharks I saw was staggering. So many oblivious swimmers arms length away from having their last worst day. He reckons with my dive, I woke up the beast from a midday snooze, and by the time he dived in, the ray’s fight or flight instinct was just starting to kick. Like many people said, The Malibu Artist shows us that great whites are around virtually 100% of the time, yet shark attacks are rare. I have no idea why sometimes they do bite people, but it's definitely a rare exception. I was at a shark conservation event and a shark attack survivor, who was attacked in the waters of California. He said he bumped into the shark, the shark was below him and his arm hit it. It bit his leg and by a miracle, not only did he survive, but he didn't lose his leg like some other survivors. According to him, the shark did not chomp down hard, which is what they normally do. Instead, the shark bit into him and swam with him held in its mouth, the shark carried him off like a dog toy. The survivor punched the eyes and gills, and as you know, the shark will let you go if you do that. In the words of that survivor, the ocean is their home, and if we want to enjoy the water, we just have to keep in mind there is a chance this could happen. I guess people could also go to beaches known to not have sharks, but Malibu ain't that.

Your story is very misleading a shark won't always let you free if you punch him in the eyes and gills... it might or it might not it mostly depends on the species of sharks, that individual and how hungry it is... We see it very often in some places of the red sea that are almost depleted of most of their food sources and were when a starved shark attacks if you aren't close to the shore your chance of surviving or close to zero no matter how strong you punch... Again it is the good reflex to have but assuming you are doing it your survival still really only depends on the shark

What sharks do is bite to tear the skin and then back off and wait for their prey to bleed out until it's too weak to put up a fight. Then they go in for the kill. A shark doesn't want to have to deal with the fangs and claws of its prey. It also gets a taste from that first bite, and humans don't taste like what they want to eat, so they're more likely to just swim away. In the case of deaths from shark attacks, it more likely to die from bleeding to death rather than being eaten whole. Of course, this isn't always the case, but considering how many hundreds of millions of people go into the sea every year, and how rare shark attacks are, obviously, they're not interested in you as a snack. Otherwise, surfing would be suicidal. This shark has probably swum under quite a few surfers in its lifetime, and sharks are swimming under surfers all the time, here or there.

For those who think sharks don't see people as food, let me tell you, sharks know exactly what we are, humans have been in the ocean since the beginning of time, so we are no different than a seal to them. Sharks are just like any predator, if they are hungry and they think they can take you without getting injured, than you are on the menu. Sharks are opportunistic eaters, they prefer easy meals with less risk of injury such as dead animals, but if they think they can take you without getting hurt than you will get hit. They prefer taking live prey from below, or from behind, such as the surfer it pursued. They are smart enough to know that getting injured is certain death for them, so they almost always try to sneak up from below or behind the prey.

This is what I think no matter what people say about them being harmless. I would NEVER put myself at risk of anything in any body of water. I don't even want to imagine being bitten by a shark. Why even risk it! Even the thought of swimming in rivers and lakes terrifies me. There's something terrifying about deep water, especially deep dark water....and now crystal clear aqua water. I prefer the local swimming pool every time. At least I get home for my next meal 😐 and another swim another day 😐 I can't fathom what goes on inside the minds of surfers. Terrifying. I hope these two were safe until they got out of the water. People's suggestions on dropping signs from a drone wouldn't work as the noise of the ocean would override that. A very loud siren would be the next bet for gaining attention of the surfers/swimmers but they should be pre-warned to not panic, to just remain still and calm so that the shark can't smell the fear because, as someone else mentioned, they can smell fear hormones, just like wasps can and will continue to attack you when you panic. With wasps, if you just do slow lengthy sweeps with your arms and remain fearless they tend to get the hint and fly away. What makes someone want to get into a body of deep water full of sharks and risk being bitten in half and eaten alive? I will NEVER understand 😐 Someone mentioned surf pools being created. Fantastic idea!! 💡🏄🏽‍♀️🏄🏿🏄🏻‍♂️👍🏽

That's a big shark. Grew up surfing in FL. When I would see a shark, I would get TF out of the water every time. Shocked this kid saw it and didn't paddle in

It looked like that drone has some sort of device it can drop that makes big splash. Thats a good idea! The ability to perform an active deterrent is huge!

I can't imagine wanting to surf so badly that I'd be willing to risk a slim chance of a shark attack...

You're magnitudes more likely of dying in a commute to work, the grocery store, Mcdonalds drive-thru, etc. Yet we don't even think twice about accepting that risk of death to go grab a couple cheeseburgers... just try to think about it that way and it becomes much easier to accept the risk swimming in the ocean.

Surfers and drone operators should agree on a signal that alerts the surfers/ swimmers that they are in danger and also fly over the shark so they know to move slowly in the other direction and out of danger.

А если в зоне прибоя есть яма до 25 метров ,в которой любят залегать акулы ,как наши сомы в омутах ? Там надо себя чувствовать и осязать ,как малек в аквариуме с акулами !

They should use drones with loudspeakers on them, to be able to warn the swimmers and surfers, so that they can decide whether to get out or not……..
