When i first saw what was happening on that big one i felt sick, it just looked like entire ocean was folding down ward and over on to me! Notice when i dive under reef was right in my face only a few feet deep but when i turn to swim up i was suddenly very deep as wave had no back at all just went from 2ft to 15ft deep! Crazy spot! Epic adventure! Thanks for watching part 2 coming!

The GoPro lens (or focal length?) still needs some improvement if it is to capture the actual appearance of the wave size from the surfer's point of view. The syndrome is especially noticeable here where that wave is about as big and terrifying as they get. This is accurately captured from the drone as well as from the boat point of view. I have seen something called a "Light Field Display" from a Swiss? Company called CREAL or maybe Metalenz - maybe that is what will be needed to fully capture the terror of a wave like that.

that was so psycho. wow. absolutely terrifying indeed. the fact that you even paddled into that zone was so intense. the way it would stand up and fold over onto the shallow reef was gut wrenching, as was the size and power. one of the most scary videos ive seen of yours. when you first paddled into the area and the water was so aqua and frothy, and you commented on its scariness, i could even see from the video that it was so dangerous, even before seeing the waves breaking, just by the shallow depth, and the water disturbance, after having been absolutely slammed onto the reef with such unfathomable force. sick. so happy you survived that wave investigation unscathed. also, john is such a smart and careful brother. happy for that as well. :)
