Liquid Gold - Uluwatu, 25 April 2021

The 25th of April was a classic dry season afternoon session at Uluwatu.
While the tide was still up, there were some good ones at Main Peak, then as it started draining, the Racetrack was delivering the goods.
The sets kept coming at the sun went down, making for some long beautiful rides during golden hour.

This is such a fast wave. The speed it generates rolling over the reef is crazy. The roundhouse turn on the longboard at 0:45 was pretty impressive but Blacky for the win with that huge barrel at 1:40. The shots from the beach of people doing the sharp reef shuffle was pretty funny too🤙🤙

Stayed here over a dozen times in the nineties with Ketut Pitur. Would sleep in the warung. Best memories of my life getting this wave with 2 or 3 of us the only ones out at sunrise. Come back in for a mie goreng and massage. Then when the crowds turned up we’d spend the rest of the morning tuning their girlfriends lol.

In my surfing years, 1965 thru maybe 1995, the best waves i rode were at Old Mans just south of Trestles on camp pendleton. Gentle sloping bottom provided easy- breaking waves. Biggest for me were c. 8'.

Every time I’ve spoken to someone about surfing in Bali, they say nah it’s not a place for beginners. But yasis fok, the beach real where I learnt to surf is a shite ton gnarlier than this. I get that you can get scratched in the reef there, but yasis. Anyway that’s just my two cents
