You can't beat Clay Marzo (red jersey). He's the god of barrels. 0:09 , 12:40, 12:54, 13:54, 14:59, 16:15 (celebration) He looks the most natural and effortless amongst everyone else. Everyone else looks like they're struggling and barely hanging in there, from safer takeoffs too. They either end up rushing out of the barrel when they think they're deep, or stall when it's too late. Clay picks the best waves, takes off much deeper than anyone else, takes his sweet time playing and getting to the proper high-line when he finds it, then goes super vertical to hook RIGHT under the ledge and stays in the barrel until the very end of a barrel up to when there's barely anything left to ride under the lip, and he still still comes out smoother and calmer than his competition (they all come out barely on their rail or claiming a much less worthy wave). Every step of the way, Clay does it better than his peers. He just looks like he's goofing around at his home-break here and getting footage for an edit. Everyone was talented (especially 15 year-old Erin Brooks, a young woman who came from a family of 100% non-surfers, no less) but Clay is on a completely different planet, even among the CT guys when it comes to barrel-riding. Wish he could compete more comfortably under the lights at the premier / CT barrel events (at the Box, or Teahupoo, or Pipeline) but the guy has a history of severe anxiety with more populated spots and comp (when he damn well makes everyone else look like a decent surfer). He'd show everyone who the true barrel-monster is. Long live the King.
