The surfing is good, but the shots of the island and the people are amazing. Amazing photography and editing 👏

Santa Cruz CA. At low tide has to say the least has thick Kelp beds . A good Surfer or a local knows what to do. Use smaller fins or surf around the kelp. Santa Cruz is is 80% reef
This spot is a complete outlier and I've always wondered why bull sharks didn't attack there. Could it be that they don't like venturing near harbors? But Saint-Gilles got many attacks so not really. Really a mystery. I sometimes wonder if the local fishermen are doing something LOL. If that was the case, thanks for not giving the whole coast to bull sharks (who have replaced the nicer reef sharks btw).

Bull sharks definitely don't mind harbours. They are often found in harbours in Australia, including Sydney Harbour

why is it somebody thinks its necessary to tell surfers there are sharks in the water? i've surfed weekly for just a year and i've already had folks tell me this. i'm like; "no 🦈 way! there're sharks in the ocean!!"

Because Reunion Island is world famous for the constant shark attacks. It’s not your normal place to surf. An insane number of fatal attacks compared to other places around the world.

officially no, but we surf with protective equipment. Sharkshields or lookouts for those whose parents don't want a sharkshield, like me...

Hard pass and definitely not worth it. You can tell yourselves whatever you want but most surf breaks around the world you “unlucky” if you get hit by a shark. At Reunion your “lucky” if you don’t. BIG DIFFERENCE. Those waves ain’t worth the risk period
