You could try thicker yarn but that may affect the gauge.

The pattern says a multiple of 12 plus 2 chains to start with. Just adjust until you get the desired width.

To me what your doing doesn't follow the pattern please xan you e plain. You have row 1 all white row 2 grey and white were in the pattern does it say full row of grey????

I've explained this all in the video and it lines up with the pattern. I've double-checked the pattern and Row 2 states to work colour B (grey) in the back loop of each st across. I don't see where you're having a problem.

If you purchase the pattern it clearly shows the 2nd row as grey.
