Re-upoaded this one. Had a noise gate on the audio on the first attempt. Really threw off the reverb tank decays. This one sounds more accurate.

Lyle always glad to see a new video, thank you! Grandson is settling in and becoming more manageable for a 2 yr old, hopefully I'll get my shop back up and running. First project is 6G15 clone/kit (already sorted and upgraded a lot of parts to Lyle standards) I'll be anxiously awaiting the next update. The medium delay mojotone is still on a shopping list.

Glad you're back to posting new videos! Maybe I'm not too picky, but even the small Accutronics spring reverb in my 2010 Carvin Vintage 16 sounds pretty good. I may have to do a comparison with my 2 1960's and 2 1970's Fender amps with reverb. They all have the long reverb tanks, but I haven't noted the make or model numbers on them. I generally only have the reverb level set to 3 at the most, so maybe the tank specs don't matter as much.

Yeah, I just didn’t have a Mojotone medium decay here right now. They’ve all gone out on finished amps. ;)

I put a short decay, 3 spring MOD reverb in my hot rod deluxe and it was an improvement. You can crank up the reverb, but the short decay helps it sound like a real room. A bit more slapback than huge cavern.

Love the channel! I got a Mesa Boogie TA30 head. And the reverb does not sound very good on it, and in top of that it’s noisy. So I have been using a pedal for it instead. Might try getting it fixed and or / Replaced. Just don’t know if it would be worth it if it’s not a good sounding one in the first place.

Thanks Lyle! I play a surfy tank in a 6g15 FET-clone. Is it a good idea to proactively hardwire the connections? Is that even possible construction wise? Best wishes

My experience with replacement tanks (I use the MODs because I find them pretty consistent) is that they're all a bit different sounding so what I do is I keep two or three of each type (most popular being for older Fender amps and the Deville types) and I try out a few to see which one suits the amp best. I've been known to put three spring short tanks in the larger cabinet Devilles, because they sound better-sometimes. It's all subjective with old tech analog stuff. Spring reverb is coming up on its 90th birthday since Hammond patented it.

I've never used it but 60 Cycle Hum says the surfy stand alone reverb is great. He should know.

Seems like it should be possible to replace just the springs and/or the transducers in a 60’s reverb tank. Be good at any rate.

Long time no see! Still most new reverb tanks sound dull compared to for example late 80's Accutronics tanks which I have. I don't understand exactly why. Those Made in U.S.A. tank's sound is more controlled and bright and not "spooky", and sounds more like a reverb, not like delay. It should be interesting to fully compare vintage tanks and current products by measuring inductances, frq responses, feeding a tank with a pulse or burst and analyzing output using spectrum analyzer etc. That Surfy tank unfortunately does not seem to make big difference. I have tried for example adjustable high pass filters or EQ in both driver and recovery side circuits to make current tanks to sound better, but it doesn't seem to make much difference because the basic sound of them is so poor.
