If I was in a pure surf band I’d get the Classic… sounds so warm and authentic. But for the flexibility I’m going to go Metal. Great demo.

I was torn between the two... but the Classic just won me over because I loved the look and it was slightly warmer to my ears which I preferred. Thanks for checking out the video!

Now THAT brand knows how to subtly incorporate the name into the design of their pedals!

I have the Classic. It does sound great at lower settings. Very 3D and authentic. However, I find that the more extreme "surfy" settings it washes out too fast. You want the drip but not the cavernous echo. I've never played an original but I've heard these don't quite have the right pan. I find myself going back to my Catalinbread Topanga, or EHX Oceans 11 when I want to surf. Too bad since I've spent so much money looking for the best surf reverb. At this point, I should've just bought a reissue tank.

Hey Leigh! I been looking this units for a while now, recently started a surf project and they are really something to consider, so basically is the same but with a few bits here and there, isn't it? The classic with the tolex is also the one I will choose, looks fantastic, but for gigging, if this happens again anytime, the compact seems the most convenient, ...., decisions, decisions, great video mate! ;)

Hey George, Thanks for the comment! These units are great, especially if you want that classic surf reverb tone. The Surfybear Classic is a direct clone of the classic Fender 6G15 tank. Lorenzo that runs Surfy Industries owns an early 60s 6G15 and he used that as the plan for the Classic. They're all based off that same circuit but the Classic is the most authentic. The only difference is instead of tubes it has JFET Transistors, but they harmonically behave in a very similar way. Also, the original units needed a lot of power, so they had an output transformer. The JFET's don't need much juice to run, so the output transformer has been replaced with a 12v DC connector. There's a great video on the Surfy KZbin channel where Lorenzo talks about the Classic against the original and how close they are. Perhaps if you were just listening to it in the room on it's own you may notice some differences (I haven't personally compared the two so I can't say for sure), but they did say that in a band situation you would never tell. Even though this particular reverb isn't tube driven like the vintage ones, by plugging it into a tube amp you're still getting a tube sound overall. The compact is perfect for gigs, but the Classic has all that vintage vibe, and it looks good too!

@@LeighFugeGuitar thanks for the info man, I'll go for the Classic, and, sorry, other thing, the old units go direct on the input of the amp, and in other verbs I usually run through the loop, have you tried the classic that way?

The company is based in Italy, but the units are assembled in Sweden. There are stickers on the back of every unit that shows this.
