Hello Eric, thank you for posting this video. My 50 amp coach has a built in surge protector. This past summer we were plugged into 30 amp service. We were very careful to not overload the circuit by running only one of the 3 air conditioners at one time and turning it off when using an appliance. Upon disconnecting the shore power after our month’s stay, the left prong (ground at top) of the 30 amp end of the dog bone was burnt and the plug was melted. It appears that the receptacle on the post was faulty and arcing may have occurred. What can I purchase to protect our unit from damage caused by faulty wiring, breakers or receptacles at the post. Thank you

Is the wireless adapter the only difference between the 34950 and 34951? Do they both have the T handles for easy removal?

The 34951 also has frequency protection, and the 34950 does not monitor that point of data. Then yes, the 34951 can work with the optional wireless Bluetooth monitor. I hope this helps. Eric

Eric/TechnoRV - thank you so much for this excellent instructional video!! I own one of these items, however I have 30 amp service required in my RV. May I simply use the dog-bone converters (one that plugs into the campground's 30 amp service) and one that plugs into the surge protector giving me a 30 amp socket, or am I better off buying a 30 amp surge protection system directly? Thank you!!

Hi James! It is always recommended that you match your surge protector to your RV, so if you have a 30A RV, you would need a 30A Surge Guard. Then you can adapt up or down from there. I hope this helps!

Yeah, it's been rough on inventory these past 3 months or so since covid. Surge Guard was completely out due to manufacturing shutdowns, but we just got new 34951 in this weekend and will have them available online this week. The 34931 will be coming in shortly as well (fingers crossed).

Yes it sure can! You simply need our Generator Bonding Plug ($12.99 on our site). Plug that into your generator to prevent the Surge Guard from shutting off power due to an open neutral.

Hi Rod, You can connect a Surge Protector up to a generator, and a lot of people do this. The other side of this is that usually generators have little issues with voltage, so it is really a personal choice. I hope this helps. Eric

The connection points to this device are specific to RV plugs, so it would not work with the charging cable on a Tesla.

What is the response time for the surge protector to disconnect in the event of a large power surge? Joules, without a miniscule response time, are not impressive. This company does not include response time on its specs on many marketing pages, which is unimpressive for a power related company. Thank you for the otherwise excellent review.

Hi Anne, I have spoken to the engineers at Surge Guard and their unit closes power as quick as any unit on the market. They do not use this as a marketing tool as other brands may do. If there is a surge, the unit will stop the surge. Surge Guard is so confident in their protection units that they even include a connected equipment coverage in their warranty. This means that if the unit does not do what it is intended to do, and something in your RV gets damaged, they will pay for the cost of whatever got damaged. No other company does this but them. Hope this helps.

Providing connected equipment coverage is indeed an excellent sign, though the savvy consumer would also seek real user reviews for how reliably the company backs up those claims. Surge protectors are complicated to compare, I'll grant them that, without agreeing that response time is "marketing". The spec sheets posted on the Tripp-Lite website for their large family of well regarded home/business surge protectors are the exemplar for consumer info. They also have a great article or two explanaing how to interpret the specs that are the main differentiators. I'm disappointed that similar specs aren't available, even buried on the manufacturers' pages, for many RV devices that cost hundreds of dollars in some cases. That said, they know their business better than I do. Again, thank you for the very helpful review for important expensive products that are difficult for the layman to assess. If you repeat this exercise in the future, I encourage you to consider including models from Hughes Autoformers. I just ordered the PWD30-EPO for my own Class B RV, and found their customer service rep extremely helpful and forthcoming, not an engineer but with just enough technical detail to meet my needs.

@@Technorv as I'm reading their exact warranty, this statement is incorrect. They say they cover what your insurance coverage won't. They don't specify Ann amount. I'm comparing this to the EMP Shield and they offer a $25,000 guarantee.

Hi Mark! The 34951 monitors frequency and it can be connected to the optional Bluetooth wireless display monitor. Other than that, they offer the same protection.
