Wow! So many phrases have beautiful sounding and perfectly executed diminuendo at the end. It’s very natural sounding IMO, like spoken language, and makes any use of sostenuto much more effective. String instruments can do this; those of us who play wind instruments have to work hard to sound this good (and mostly we fail).
