Price surging ought to be illegal. So should obscene overdraft fees. But like he said, we vote with our cash. If you don’t like it, don’t pay for outrageous Lyft fees, etc.

Rideshare is using algorithms on the drivers as well. If a driver will accept $10 pay for a trip today, the algorithm may come back the next day to see if they can get the driver to take $9, then $8. I started driving rideshare making good money thinking if I took everything it would even out in the long run. Eventually I found myself making minimum wage and providing the use of my car on top of that and I quit. I'm not surprised that they do the same sort of things with riders, since either way these algorithms are designed to maximize the rideshare company's margin.
