I’m 23 years old and thankful to God for giving me another chance at life. Three months ago, I had a mechanical aortic valve replacement, and I’m currently in the recovery stage. So far, I can walk up to 200 meters without stopping. While my recovery feels slower compared to others, I’m grateful for any progress I make each day, no matter how small. ❤

Great overview article. I thought through all these considerations before getting my AV replaced with an Edwards bovine valve and aortic root aneurysm repaired/replaced by Dr. Joseph Lamelas using the "Miami" procedure in June 2022. He is one amazingly gifted cardiac surgeon!

Perfect timing. Just had a series of tests re my severe aortic stenosis. At age 76 I have overall good health and I am physically active. Being seen atStructural intervention team of Hartford Health Heart and vascular institute. Hoping for the simplest solution but this video introduced considerations I was unaware of. For me a patient it's a mountain of information to negotiate. Very scary to consider opening my chest. Thank you for this video. This Monday I meet with the head surgeon to hear recommendations. Yikes.

I was born with a bicuspid valve. Currently my aortic root is 5.2cm and the AA is 4.9cm.I've had two previous aortic valve replacements as well. Now it's just a waiting game until surgery.

You raise a really great question about aortic stenosis. Unfortunately, as a patient advisory group, we are not trained or capable of providing specific medical advice. That said, we would strongly encourage you to discuss this question with your medical team. If you are not getting information that you are comfortable with then perhaps you should get a second opinion to validate and support next steps in the treatment process. We are sorry that we cannot be of more help to you. We hope you can understand!

I never had an aneurysm, but I had a 5mm hole in my bicuspid aortic valve due to endocarditis. I don’t know how or when or why I got endocarditis, but 2 years ago at age 62 I was in heart failure. Having taken care of myself, In shape, non-smoker/drinker, non drug user, I am still baffled to this day how my aortic valve got a 5mm hole in it, and why it just popped up 2 years ago.
