17 years of training?... wow, major respect for people who go through this type of medical training

dutchman063 they say it’s 17 it’s less but in the field of medicine, you’re always in school because medicine is a “practice “

@@mattl7424 Not true. There are different training options today, and what he states is true. Also, some hospitals only take the top 3 to 10 percent of surgeons. TV shows are good for the public. However, we catch the snafus. Makes these surgical shows less interesting. Many have experts on the set. They have been called on their technique. Medical folks will turn away if they catch these snafus.

Pamela Demarest it’s not true? So medicine isn’t always adapting? The way to perform medicine and surgeries doesn’t change with time? You’re going to tell me that the bs CDC, didn’t take way Turpentine away from many products as used as medicine to treat many illnesses? And this corona virus hoax is real? They don’t explain viruses properly to the media, because the media actively lies.

@@mattl7424 You didn't comprehend my comment. Your comment stated it was less than 17 years. Yes, ongoing education is required. I have scrubbed high-risk neuro, high-risk cardiac, transplants, and trauma as a physician's assistant for 20 plus years. We use stealth, 3 D imaging. and equipment your mind cannot possibly perceive. I didn't mention the C Virus! You did! Go argue with the wall because it appears that is what you are trolling for. I know more about this virus and it is crossing the blood-brain barrier. No reply to me. Yes, I am a woman and do not assert your knowledge over mine simply because you wear pants!

Nice to hear from a really chill surgeon. Love your videos. I actually work as a overnight housekeeper in cath lab/cvor at a local hospital so surgery staff is only there that time of night during emergencies. Have an interest in going to school for surgical tech. Always want to ask the techs about their job but I’m too shy lol

"It's just how wonderfully the human body is created, it's just so amazing you know" YES! I love that quote at around 14:33 in the video! A lot of times when people ask me why I work in the OR, I tell them it is because I am fascinated by the human body, and it is amazing to get an inside look. To be a part of fixing an issue, to learn more details about our bodies, and to see time and time again just how resilient our bodies can be. Great video, thank you for sharing it with us :)

miikaelas, that's just how I felt. I'm a RN. I was 3 years out of school, so I had a good med- surg background. I had to learn the OR on-the- job. They started me out scrubbing. I remember my first surgery and I was in awe! To cut someone open, fix the problem and sew them up was so fascinating! I was hooked! I absolutely loved it and I miss it so much!

He sounds like he would be fantastic to work with. We didn't do any cardiac surgery except for pacemakers. We did do an occasional thoracotomy and thoracoscopy. As the circulator, I didn't mind running to get that out-of-the box instrument. I also added it to the card as a hold item. Like he said, the patient has to be taken care of.

I wish I had known about your channel back when you did this video. I'm having a davinci robot assisted small bowel resection. I've watched hundreds of hours of videos (including yours) and at this point I feel like a total expert. 😁 The question I have, is how do you ask your surgeon questions about the procedure when they see you in pre-op, without coming off like a tool? Like now I'm curious what retractors might be used, lol.

So in my state you don’t have to be actually certified to be a surgical tech. I am going to be starting a new position at a hospital with some experience but not extensive. What do you recommend to help me succeed?
@pamelademarest8069
@pamelademarest8069 4 жыл бұрын
The hospitals will want you to take the two nationally recognized tests for certification. An entry-level test. Some states have a Grandfather clause. Each state is different. If you work for a Level I, II, or III trauma hospital, more than likely they will want you to be Certified, but still, that is entry-level testing. Years of training are required to do all surgeries, such as craniofacial, limb lengthening, and then to follow up and get training in Pediatric and Adult surgery. Two entirely different surgical needs. Self study is good. Good luck to you!

Let's clarify. Surgical techs and RN's (if they choose to scrub) have to go through the same training. They do have different job descriptions. In some hospitals, such as some Veteran's hospitals, only RN's scrub. Many RN's have been taught by surgical technologists. Two separate professions. In some hospitals, surgical techs can circulate as well. Just have to have an RN present to count the sponges. We have many roles in the OR and the most experienced can cross-train and do whatever is needed to save a life.

People have such few love and respect for the people that just save lives and then go home make dinner go to bed and save a nother the next day. I hope more people become surgeon's to help with how long the work days can be for dr.s and medical staff.

I’m 53 looking for a new career. I have a very strong work ethic and smart but I’m very sensitive. I wonder if this is the right career path for me. Do you get yelled at a lot in the beginning? Are surgeons azzholes or do they cut you a break? Im scared of the tension.

The physical requirements can be grueling. There is tension in most every surgery and if you are sensitive to constructive criticism then I would have second thoughts. Surgeons are not going to ask you for instruments over and over. They depend on us to pay attention and learn what the surgery requires. It's a tough environment. I think others would agree.
