Son...yes, this is Shane's dad, you should be very proud of what you have created here! This is more than just educational videos, you have changed lives with the compassionate understanding of your subject matter, and your gift of being able to make complex situations understandable to people. What you've done here is much more than just Surgical Tech Tips. Shane, you've created a legacy that will live on for future generations of CST's, FA's and more medical professionals than you realize. Andrea's comment earlier is also a testimonial as well for patients going through medical procedures themselves who are searching for a better understanding, comfort, and peace of mind during anxious and unnerving times before undergoing procedures themselves...WOW! ♥️

Thank you for posting, and congrats on the new career move. I am a Program Director at one College and an adjunct instructor at another for surgical technology. I use your videos all the time. (so much my students jokingly call you my boyfriend. lol) Our students do a year in the classroom/lab before going to clinical, and your videos show them what I can not put into words for them to visually see. My new instructor is also using your channel in her classes as well. They really have been a blessing to us as instructors and to our students. We hope you continue to post new content on what you are doing now. I worked in the OR for 15 years and the last five as a traveler until I got into education in 2016. I've been a Surgical tech for over 20 years, and I love to have great examples of where the OR experience can take students, your story is one to share. We wish you the best of luck and thank you for all you put into Surgical Tech Tips.

I will be eternally grateful for the content you put out. Thank you for doing all those videos in your past. I was getting major anxiety waiting for T5-L5 fusion with 20% chance of death due to blood loss. I found your channel on my sleepless nights. Your clear & simple explanations of many of the roles and procedures in the OR (OR prep, instrument prep & cleaning, and patient positioning) helped me prepare mentally for the day. I'm now 13 days post-op, and had sutures out this morning. There were complications turning an expected 8 hours turned into 13 due to complications. Knowing that people in the OR were gonna be like you with the utmost professionalism and care, I was able to put my life in their hands. These should be required watching for pre-surgical patients. Thank you so much. Best of luck with your new adventure. That twinkle in your eye makes me think you'll rock it!

What an awesome comment from your dad! I agree, you have no idea how many people you have helped in the field including me who left the field for 25 years and came back successfully! Even here, I have hope because heck, I’m getting old and being a CST is a super physically demanding position and I’ll have to leave it again eventually! Staying surgical adjacent while appealing to your “nerdy” tech side/computer programming knowledge is a win for many! Warmest wishes to you, best of luck and I’d love to see any videos you happen to make!

From surgical tech/ neuro surg first assist, to full-stack programmer student at hack reactor, my path has been quite the adventure. While I do miss the OR, I believe in challenging myself to reach my true potential. Fun fact: I helped build preference cards into the database using Centricity. Looking back, I learned so much during my time in the OR, even taking on roles beyond my usual scope of practice; my attending did not belive in residents... Working in a hospital is more than just a job; it's a calling. It's not about the money, but the passion for what we do. No amount of overtime can fully compensate for the stress and dedication we put in as surgical techs. To all the future techs out there, embrace this experience and always keep growing. Scrubs are so underrated, and are a key component of the OR. My goal is to return to school and finish my MD degree, and this journey has been incredibly rewarding and provided really good insight into my future plans in medicine. Transitioning to the full-stack role has been quite a contrast. I feel like my brain has shifted its neural pathways to learn this new logic. Remote work is a change from the early mornings and late hours in the OR, but it's a new challenge I'm embracing. No more emergency lap appys that bump everyone in the board and could have waited another 24 hours, or 4 level lamys with fusion =/ good ol days. Our career paths may have similarities, and I'm inspired by your journey. Here's to chasing our dreams and staying true to our aspirations. Cheers!

Hi Shane, this is Sas. Like your father said: "you should be very proud of what you have created here!" Thanks for making these videos for the last few years! Especially the video on the DaVinci robot helped me out a lot creating our own course. I'm really happy you made this 180 degrees switch, because now you're one of my colleagues! It was great meeting you in person in Amsterdam and I know for sure we will meet more often in the future. I hope we can make new videos together very soon..in the US. See you soon online! But first...enjoy your weekend in California. :)

I started in the OR at 17 years old and I’m 55 now. Just got soooooo tired being behind the table and had mini burnouts every couple of years. I finally decided to move into Laser and just got hired as a Product Specialist for Urologic Holmium lasers. Looking forward to having the versatility of having a life outside of the OR and still having one foot in the door. Good luck to you sir in your new venture. I always had a passion for OR design and construction and would love to be a consultant along those lines one day. Again good luck!!

I take my CST exam here in Vegas on 3/3 and could not be more excited! Once employed, I would love to help beta test any apps that your team puts together. I think this app will be of great use to all of the new techs going for that first job, or travel tech's that don't know the new hospital/surgeons that they are going to work with. Great idea!!

This is amazing! Congrats on going after something you love. I have been a pastry chef for 10 years and am currently in a Surg tech program. During my research, your videos were always at the top and helped keep me motivated and somewhat prepared for my first day in the program. Funny enough, on the first day of class, our instructor played one of your videos. Your TechTips are pretty much part of our curriculum. Career changes are scary and exhilarating! The passion you put into your work is motivating and inspiring! I would love to see updates on the preference card app! I'm curious if it could potentially be something integrated into our course as well as using it as a resource while entering into my clinical semester. Good Luck in your endeavors, I can't wait to see what's to come!

Good for doing what is best for you! It isn't that easy to do! I'm in term 3 of my surg tech program, and leading up to making the decision to apply to ST, I watched practically all your videos. So THANK YOU! On day 1 of this term, we had about 10 extra minutes and my instructor was like "Let's watch a video of this guy on KZbin, he has a lot of great stuff if you ever want to look into him." (Nice job man!) Hope for the best for you in the future!

I actually just made the jump to a CST Supervisor position with the focus on education, with other managerial duties. I think being able to use the creative side of our CST brains in other related arenas is a fantastic way to use knowledge and improve the profession for future (and present) techs. Kudos to you for tackling coding- that befuddles the heck out of me, but YOU GO, Buddy! Nice to see a healthy, positive and productive update! Im eager to see your education components, so stay in touch, eh?

🇨🇦. Hi. I’m only a patient who has been in the OR many times. I always look around and check everything and the people out. Your videos have made me feel very comfortable in a very uncomfortable place. Thanks for that. It’s nice to know how safe everyone makes my surgery. Now if you could only help me with the after effects of the anesthesia. I’m very grumpy afterwards.

Congratulations on a new step in life, and expanding your education and knowledge! I watched all of your scrub tech videos going through school, and they were massively helpful in my success. I am now in nursing school, just started a week ago, and I WISH there was a nursing channel that could even amount to what you have created here. So thank you. I will be keeping my scrub tech certification, and hopefully graduate nursing school in 2025. Anyway, thank you for helping me and so many others in our scrub journey!
