Great Video. You'll help many people. Another idea. If you have natural gas at your home. Buy a natural gas regulator along with the fittings and natural gas hose. Remove the propane hose from the selector switch and redirect it to the natural gas regulator make your adjustments place the selector switch to propane and now you have a tri-fuel generator.

Good idea! Don't need that in my situation since this portable generator is a backup for my 22kW Generac which is plumbed to the house's gas supply.

Funny I bought the same Gen in July 2021, since then I run my generator twice a month, just put new fuel with stabilizer, Gen ran great all day, the following day, it started to surge, before I started to make calls and troubleshoot, glad I saw your video, problem fixed, ran it for the last 2 days for an hour each day, problem solved, I turn the dial to storage but also turn off the fuel lever also, great video thanks for your help.. I have the same unit. After having electrical work done, went to test and started surging, quit and wouldn't restart. Moved to garage and tried a little later and it started right up. Tried again today and it did the same thing. Read troubleshooting and saw unit must be level. My driveway is not level so I leveled the unit with some boards. Then it ran fine. I'm guessing either the oil sensor or the fuel pickup were out of sorts on unlevel surface.

I purchased the same unit 1 year ago. Used it 3 times. The fourth time, it would turn on for 5-8 seconds then turn off. After lots of troubleshooting, we discovered my fuel selector switch also failed. After I bypassed it , it ran without issue. Thanks for the info. Not sure why these switches fail so much.

Bad engineering I guess. I still haven't gotten the fuel selector switch shipped out to me even after getting the warranty department involved :(. It just runs without it. So not sure if I want it at this point ha ha.

@@FRANKHURTADO01 The only thing I worry about is the length of the hose and the large wrap around length. Seems it's needing to travel up, then around. I'm tempted to cut it to avoid extra travel needed. I guess I could buy a spare hose.

Although I only run mine on propane so could have the same issue but don’t know it. Also, in runs my entire 2800 square foot home with 2 freezers and 2 fridges, electric hot water heater, pool pump, and 5 ton AC. 5 ton ac not at first, but after a soft start installed, no problem

Id be interested to see if yours behaves the same as mine so mine runs amazing on propane, but does the surging when I tried gasoline oddly it ran for about 12 hours on gasoline no issues and then the next time I tried to use it again on gasoline it did this surging stuff, however when I went back to propane it works like a charm again.

Yes you can do either with battery or crank. Just close the fuel valve while the generator is running and let it run until it dies.

I just purchased the same generator last week and it started right up which was good but was surging a bit but didnt think it was a big concern until I heard yours after you did the bypass. A week later when I tried the unit again to do a dry run hook-up to the house I could not even start the generator so I went through the Manuel see if I didn't do something right but all looked ok. I then went to KZbin to for some trouble shooting online and found your video which again was a great help!! thank you! I did what you did what you suggested and the unit started right up but it is still surging pretty bad so not sure what that is? Perhaps carburetor issue?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I will try calling Amazon where I purchased it and also call Duromax directly to see what the next step might be. Like you I do not want to ship it back, plus tour up the box it came in already so hopefully that's not a problem. Any other thoughts out there again would be appreciated.. Thank you! John

I also think it could be a carburator issue. But just to cross off all the possibilities, make sure the gas you're using isn't too old, check the air filter and make sure it's not onstructed by anything, turn on the generator on a flat and level surface, make sure the shutoff valve is open all the way, and lastly make sure the auto idle switch is off. If none of that works, give duromax a call and see what they say. Push comes to shove, return it to amazon. Thanks for watching!

These problems should Not exist for Duramax Generator. It has got very good Ratings. All Brand New Generators will Always Start in the First pull for a Recoil Start. ......if ONE follow All the Right Steps

Mine had the same problem. I bypassed the switch as John showed, but it still surged badly, but I noticed a sheet metal lever in top of the carburetor that moves when it's cranking....not sure whether it's a choke or an enrichment valve, but rotating that lever to the right slightly smooths it right out.

I just tried to start my xp13000eh yesterday and it ran for less than 20 seconds before dying out. It will not restart. So frustrating. I will haveto try this. It's bullshit though buying brand new and having issues first thing out of the box. They better give some money back for brand new generators having issues. I am not keeping mine that has faults out of the box. Not a good start.

my XP13000HX was a complete failure. disapointed. I could not get tech support from duromax so I started trying to fix it myself. I was backfiring violently to where the muffler was deforming outwards. I did more research and found out when engines backfire like that it is most likely a vavle problem. So I took a look at the valves, and in the process dropped a rocker arm pin down the opening leading to the oil pan. so I have the rocker arm pin sitting in the oil pan. It just keeps getting better and better.

My portable generator is connected to the main panel using a manual interlock switch. I do, however, have an automatic transfer switch for my 22kW Generac which switches power from the grid to the Generac generator whenever power goes out. My portable generator is there just in case the Generac stops working during an outage. The interlock switch lets me completely disconnect the grid and the generac from my main panel.

I don't see why not. The only thing would be finding an adapter to properly fit the propane tank and the fuel lines on the generator. I don't have a propane tank so I haven't been able to test this.

Need to pull the nut at the bottom of the carb. to drain the bowl or you'll have issues after storage and you want to start it again.

I don't hqve a means of testing out the generator with propane. You would have to connect the regulator directly to the carburator so I would think a longer hose is needed to do that.

No think about it. He bypassed the selector switch that is not working. He will need to go directly from the propane regulator to the input port that is post carb. Basically bypassing the selector again via propane. Possibly you also need to pinch off carb line to prevent back flow from propane. My guess is this is what that selector switch did via valve.

I'm still totally confused on the propane connector to use on this unit that is threaded on both connectors. The manual says it's an LPG Source. I bought a Coleman Propane Adapter 1lb to 20lb which (silly me) thinking these connectors are universal. It's bad enough everything on this machine is in MM. It was the wrong device. Any suggestions / links on the correct propane connector / hose to purchase with the right connector is much appreciated.

I have not used propane on my unit. Have you tried bypassing the fuel selector switch and tied your propane line directly to the carburator? If my generator was starved for fuel with gasoline, it could very well be it would also be starved with propane. I think the manual says you have to put it into auto idle (throttle) when using propane. Have you tried that out?

Did ANYONE get a new selector switch? I have a tri fuel Duromax that runs good so far, but DUROMAX DOES NOT SELL PARTS FOR IT. I WOULD NOT BUY A DUROMAX UNTIL THEY HAVE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THEIR GENERATORS.

The Duromax and Westinghouse company's treat customers like dirt' that is if you can get them on the phone at all. So avoid them like the plague. Buy Generac, Northstar Honda or Winco all seem to be US Made and have a parts department!

According to genratorgrid it has 10-12% THD. I already have UPSs on all my sensitive electronics so I am not too worried about my devices getting damaged.

Looks to me all you need to do to use propane is hook up your tank and turn fuel switch to propane. Just leave everything else the way it is. Just a thought🤔

That is something I didn't test since I don't have a propane tank. Assuming the fuel switch works correctly with propane, and doesn't surge, that would certainly be an easier route.
