I lived in Rotterdam in the 90's and loved Surinaams food. The one go to place on the weekend was 100% WarungMini on the WItte De Wit straat for Moksi Meti or Soato soup. It was never dissapointing.

I was in Suriname for a week at a conference and every day we were served food from a different cuisine and culture. Even though I have some food allergies and couldn’t eat half of it, I never went hungry! The Indian and the Chinese cuisine I am most familiar with but the Javanese food was my favorite.

Crazy how many culture shares the same dishes with different seasonings and unique touches. In Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 we do have a peanut soup with stew and rice « sauce arachide » We also have that one dish with cassava and boil plantain eggs and a lil sauce made with eggplant and some spices called " akpessi. Wild 😮‍💨😮‍💨

Wow. I really learned something new! Where has Surinamese food been? Being from NYC I've been exposed to various types of diverse cusines. I love Indian food, used to cook it. But the Surinamese Indian dishes has a different twist, plus the blend of African and other Asian influences. What a unique cuisine! I love liver too! I LOVE how everybody tells the heritage of the food, when i was small i never knew there weir also Indian/Indonisian/Chinese influences in Surinamese food, i thought it was only food from Afro Surinamese people, as i get older and research it i've learned this and now i'm learning even more, thanks

I've been following along for a while now and checking out Surinamese food in the Netherlands. What stands out to me is the creativity of our people there. In Suriname we tend to stick to books of how things were made. However in the Netherlands, they have so many different combinations of the same dishes that I wouldn't have thought to be possible. Like the Bara with the liver. Doing that in Suriname might get you some strange looks. Or the picalilly sauce, which is Suriname is more common in creole cuisine, but its mixed here with Indo-Surinamese food. It's amazing tbh. I will definitely try out these combos!

If you ever come back to the Netherlands go to Limburg its one of the most amazing provinces in the Netherlands and they have great food. Zuurvlees with patat/fries and vlaai is a must try when you come to the Netherlands. Zuurvlees with fresh Fries aspecially its my favourite dutch food as a Dutchman.

FYI, cendol and dawet are different based on from the kind of flour. Both from Java just different regions. Dawet is more in Central and East Java while cendol is in west Java. Dawet applies rice flour to create while cendol uses hunkwe or mungbean flour. But nowadays people are mixed up by those twos.
