Do you think the game will be good? I liked most of the Assassins Creed games. The Japanese caught some disrespect from the woke gods at Ubisoft though.

Some disrespect? Why because Ubisoft have chosen that the new Assassin's Creed will put a historical figure and African character which name was lost in history born in the Portuguese East Africa who was brought to Japan and became a servant, retainer and koshō (小姓, page) to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga for a period of 15 months (1581-1582) until Nobunaga's death in the Honnō-ji Incident (本能寺の変, Honnō-ji no Hen) where Oda Nobunaga was assassinate, during the Sengoku period of Japan. It is known that this historical figure and character was named Yasuke (弥助) by Nobunaga, but was also known as Kuro-san (kuro means black) or Kuro-suke (くろ助). Moreover, Daimyō Oda Nobunaga was responsible for the Tenshō Iga War (天正伊賀の乱, Tenshō Iga no Ran), two invasions of the Province of Iga Sokoku Ikki (伊賀惣国一揆) by the Oda clan during the Sengoku period, against the Shinobi Clan, which many legendary Shinobi came from Fujibayashi Nagato no Kami (藤林 長門の神), Hattori Hanzō (服部 半蔵), Ishikawa Goemon (石川 五右衛門), Momochi Sandayū (百地 三太夫), Kirigakure Saizō (霧隠才蔵) known to be a rival of Sarutobi Sasuke (猿飛佐助)... Ubisoft choose two heroes, Yasuke from Oda Nobunaga's side and Fujibayashi Naoe (藤林 奈緒) daughter of Fujibayashi Nagato (藤林 長門) from Iga Province. No disrespect here.

as a history nerd i can see a bunch inaccuracy. first thing is the commit you have to be born into the Samurai Class, that's not completely true. you are referring to the EDO period of Japan when that took place but the time period Yasuke takes place in is not the EDO period. and yes historians that specialize in that era of time do say he was given status of samurai from Oda. also keep in mind Oda open to westerners and it wasnt until later they wanted close of the nation from outsiders. i would recommend you look up who he is and the cultural appropriation commit you should know is a silly commit seeing Japan looks at Yasuke as a very respected historical icon in Japanese history. if you ever watch Media from Japan you will see Yasuke in Cartoons, tv shows, video games etc. from what i seen Japanese are very proud and protective over Yasuke as a figure in their media and history other then ignorance on history i would say a good reaction but don't feel to bad i find most people don't Rember history class from school

How can you confidently talk about Yasuke when its clear as day you never read one article or book on the guy? Like you guys use the "retainer" argument not knowing other full blooded Japanese retainers were also samurais. Try doing some research instead of re-using other peoples arguments.

And it was black people in japan just rare. The japanese and africa have a deep history u know u can literally look it up its statues of black people older then we can live found in japan. And all over the planet. Blk ppl was already here all over. They just announced in japan they want blk ppl to move there to have children and families. Primary source for this? I know the Shincho Koki is technically a secondary source but it is treated as a primary source by historians, if you want to reference the Shincho Koki. So, what is your primary source? Which Jesuit letter? And if it's the Shincho Koki, which book and which page? Thanks. Can't wait for your reply.

Everywhere likes the myth, not the true history. He wasn't a retainer (kashin) but a page (kosho). There's barely anything written about him. It's wild how people just want something to be true and then run with it as if it is. I know there are a lot of articles spreading the idea he was a samurai to the point it's just accepted as fact by a lot of people but that's mainly cause of people like Thomas Lockley. There is also no mention of any battle he was supposedly in. You can go through the entire Shincho Koki, which always lists the samurai that took part in battles and he is not mentioned once. Actually, there are only a few sentences specifically about him. I don't have any issue with the fictional version of Yasuke, sounds a lot cooler than a guy that was only free for 15 months before having to go back to the Jesuits, but the downside is a lot of people think it's actual history. It isn't, this is just another example of Ubisoft taking "liberties" with history. You can get the Shincho Koki yourself but it's expensive. So if you want a summary: he is only mentioned on a single page, where he is shown off to Nobunaga by the Jesuits. It's not even mentioned how he went from Jesuits to Nobunaga. To figure that out, you need to look at letters from Jesuit Louis Frois (Casas II). That's how little he is mentioned in supposedly the main source about Yasuke. His name isn't even mentioned.

7:34 WTF you be smoking, guys? William Adams became a samurai only 23 years after Nobunaga's death. That doesn't mean Yasuke was a samurai, cause we don't have a single primary source that says so. Primary sources actually say he was a "kosho", which is like a squire. But it was definitely possible for an outsider to become samurai should he prove his worth, although it was extremely rare.

Yeah ... No ... Yasuke was a retainer, a servant, who eventually got the honor to become sword bearer for his "master", but he definitely did NOT get the status of Samurai. Also i thought the female character was going to be well made, because early she tries fighting head on and get's her butt handed to her, but then on the bridge in the dark she backhand punch a guy sending him flying 5 meters away ... There is no evidence that says he didn't have Samurai status. We tend to go off of what is known which is outsiders could not be given the title but a daimyo could bestow said title in certain circumstances. There are books that talk about how Yasuke was in fact a Samurai. One from a Japanese author. There is a lot that we just don't know. Now him being a sword bearer does seem highly likely. And being a daimyos sword bearer he would have been trained in weaponry and Japanese culture. Now after Oda Nabunoga we see Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Samurai became something different which also is seen as the beginning of the end of the Samurai.

@@jgshaolinterrific5218 there is no evidence I'm not a samurai, doesn't make me one. The evidence don't have to exists in order to prove a negative : there is no evidence that he ever was a samurai = he was no samurai. A sword bearer yes, a warrior sure, trained in the ways of the samurai maybe, but he never became a samurai. Samurais were way more than warriors, it was a status, giving them hierarchical power. Even if Yasuke was allowed to fight, it's highly unlikely anyone would have bestowed him with that status, expect for exceptionally praised acts, like saving the life of a daimyo or something like that.

@@ninjatakaone again I never said he was a Samurai. I'm just saying with the little we know about him it is a possibility. I'm more inclined to think he was a sword bearer. We just don't know. Nor do we know how the games storyline is going to play out in it's entirety.

And when you ask those who say he wasn't a Samurai and downgrade him to nothing more than a play toy to site where they got the info, oops they go quiet. Not tryina be that guy, but I guess I might end up being...well, that guy. The last people who should be talking about cultural appropriation are the same people who culturally appropriated the entire world for the most part. Because that's all I've seen the last few days. People losing their minds over something that's really so small imo. Yeah, Yasuke wasn't the first person to come to mind for anyone when it was announced that an AC game taking place in Japan was on its way. But here he is. People keep saying he was a servant or a retainer (two completely different things) and not a samurai, when it's widely accepted that he was made a samurai by Nobunaga. Yasuke even had retainers of his own! Even if he wasn't a full fledged samurai, a retainer - which is and can be a samurai, is a pretty high rank. So yelling and crying about him just being a retainer, doesn't take away from his greatness. This isn't the first time Yasuke has been featured in a game and it won't be the last. Aside from this, he was featured in Samurai Warriors 5 and he was a boss in Nioh. But to my knowledge, nobody was crying about that. And why would they? It's a frickin video game lol Btw, just wanna comment real quick on what you said about African slaves being sold by their own people, that's completely false. Those were Hebrews being sold. You had hamites, selling shemites. Not the same. I'd get into that more, but this isn't exactly the time of the place for that.

I agree but Africain yes was a lot sold by their own peoples. Or more exactly by other more powerful tribes in Africa. Because even before this they enslaved each others. And after that, they sold them to Europeean and Jesuites, Asian who also sell their "own". Well that was a big commerce between all. Actually all Africa sold their neightbor and same for others part of the world.

I only really got into the AC franchise with Origins; I had tried a few of the other games but couldn't get into them. When I played Origins I kept thinking, "This game would be perfect if it had dialogue options and some choice in the story" - then "Odyssey" came out and gave us just that. Sadly, Valhalla leaned into the bloat and lost a lot of the charm; I got 70 hours in (not even the halfway point) and gave up. I tried the last game and didn't like it at all. Thus, "Odyssey" is my favorite and I am really hoping this new game brings back that same kind of fun. I really want to play as a Shinobi girl.

this is from history channel. educate so you dont look stupid. Yasuke (弥助 or 弥介) was a man, likely of African origin, who served as a servant and retainer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period. He arrived in Japan in 1579 in the service of the Italian Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano. Yasuke fought alongside Nobunaga in the Honnō-ji Incident, where he decapitated the warlord and saved his head. Despite popular myth, there is no historical evidence that Yasuke was ever granted the rank or title of samurai
@Reirainsong
@Reirainsong 4 ай бұрын
Considering the historical liberties Ubisoft is taking, changing Yasuke's status from a peculiar but unremarkable servant to badass samurai isn't too much. It has been done before in historical series, he has a Netflix anime named after him, and features prominently in games like Samurai Warriors and Nioh 2, both of which are likely to be better than Ubisoft's take on the Sengoku period.

@@ninjatakaone So what? There are hundreds, if not thousands of games based on feudal Japan that have a male protagonist that can satisfy the Japanese Samurai fantasy so many white male grifters want. The one time a publisher chooses to make a game based on a character that actually existed, now all of a sudden the suspension of disbelief is not viable because a fictional retelling is not based on historical accuracy? News flash; none of the Assassins Creed games were based on historical accuracy. They all had a twist one way or another to create their own take on the historical time period for narrative storytelling. Thats one of the reason why people like the franchise. This year alone has 2-3 AAA Japanese games featuring a male protagonist in Japan, lol. Its become so popular to complain anytime people see a black protagonist in a movie or video game, that people are so quick to call it woke, even if its loosely based on facts from history. In the next 50 years I predict people are going to complain when a movie is made about Barack Obama, and people will say "how come they didnt make a movie about the hundreds of white presidents?" Even though there are thoudsands of biographies, movies, Tv shows, and documentaries featuring white presidents, that nobody will care about as much UNTIL that movie releases..

A woman is not valid for you? She is Japanese but because she is a woman it's suddenly not enough when I sure you never complain about the whole others games without women.
