As a guy I dig this movie just for the fact that this is a typical romcom but for guys. We have dozens of silly romcoms with perfect guys loving "not so perfect" girl. But we have almost none of those where roles changed. This just looks fresh and funny for fantasy movie

Actually a classic romantic comedy trope has a gorgeous girl falling for some much less attractive man. See the Seven Year Itch with Marilyn Monroe and tom ewell and The Girl can't help it with Tom Ewell and Jayne mansfield or any of a series of don knotts comedies from the 1950's and 1960's. Casablanca is the classic romantic movie with Ingrid bergman falling for Humphrey bogart. The wedding singer would be another obvious one a little more recent. John Candy in uncle buck attracts women with his personality as far as I can figure. Beverley Hills Ninja I believe Chris Farley hooks up with Nicolette Sheridan. Not a Rom Com but in Horrible Bosses jennifer Anniston aggressively courts her (sorry Charlie) much less attractive assistant. The Wedding crashers and Owen wilson and vince vaughn ?? hook up with Isla fisher and rachel MacAdams. Harry Met Sally: billy crystal gets Meg ryan Annie Hall hell any Woody Allen movie The apartment Jack Lemon gets Shirley MacLaine. Moonstruck - wooden armed Screamer Nicolas cage gets cher. Ground Hog Day - Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell Defending your Life: Albert Brooks gets Meryl Streep There are a couple out there.

Actually a TV show from 2007-12 had this in spades. 'Chuck' featured a physically incompetent nerd who worked as rough equivalent of an Apple "Genius" who falls for a hyper physically competent, beautiful spy Sarah. It ran for five years.

OK ... you have all these people claiming that things like this can happen. For the most part - no - they can't. Thus - Leonard marries Penny on TBBT - and you will always have some schmuck point out that at one point in time Johnny Galecky and Kaley Cuoco actually did date. The thing is - Johnny Galecky - isn't some nerd with a Phd. He's an ACTOR - just like Kaley is an actor. Now - the guy playing the nerd here - did he actually get to screw Alice Eve? Did he? I seriously doubt it. One thing mentioned - is that Chicks go for guys with Confidence in themselves. This is true - but - it only goes so far. Can it take some guy who's like a 7 and get him in the pants of a girl who is a 9 or 10? Yeah - it can. One of the things about this - is girls fall for guys because they are confident - but then the guy is confident in himself - because he is stupid. The thing here - is these girls eventually figure that out. One of the major factors in all this though - is - What would her friends think of her dating a Nerd? Would that hurt her standing in the Popular Pretty Person Club? Many if not most of the people who have achieved "Popular" status - care about that A LOT. Another thing here - is that there is a difference between getting a 10 to go out with you and getting one to have sex with you. They can Friend Zone you - and still be happy to go out with you - they just aren't going to have sex with you. Girls love to have guys as Friends. A girl once said to me about that: _"If you ask a girl to do something and she says she will - that means nothing. If you ask a guy to do something and he says he will - he probably will do it. That's why girls like to have guys as friends. So if they need help with something - they have someone that they can count on. They can't count on a girl."_ So - there is a vast difference between a girl like Alice Eve dating a guy like this that she has Friend Zoned - and having sex with him. Their excuse here - is that she thought he was so nerdy that he wouldn't hurt her - the way some handsome boy friend might. That might be true - but she'd pick some guy who had more going for him than this guy. This guy is like a 3. She'd pick some guy who was at least a 6 - or - 7. .
