Our 2022 Surprise Model represents a high point in Steam Locomotive construction in Europe. A true giant rolls onto the tracks of Märklin and Trix in H0. The class 498.1 Albatros steam locomotive appears in the version as the 498.104 museum locomotive of the Železnice Slovenskej Republiky in current operating condition. The locomotive is presently at home in Bratislava.

One single Albatros remained in Slovakia: the operational museum locomotive, road number 498.104. At the end of 2004, this unit traditionally based in Bratislava had to be put into storage with boiler damage. There were several years of restoration with considerable support from the Albatros Club in Bratislava. Since the beginning of 2006, this locomotive has been on loan to the Albatros Club. The club is responsible for its maintenance and also for its operation and the locomotive crew. The restoration was completed in November of 2009. Since then this mighty express train locomotive has gleamed again in the original paint scheme with the boiler, cylinders, cab, tender, and smoke deflectors in steel blue, the running gear in addition to the buffer beam in red as well as a continuous white stripe from the running boards across the cab to the tender. The roof of the cab is also carried out in white.

The most beautiful surprise for all Czech and Slovak railway modelers from Märklin/Trix. I no longer even hoped that anyone would start manufacturing Czechoslovak steam locomotives. Many thanks to Märklin/Trix. I hope that the successful sale will be an impetus for your other wonderful Czechoslovak steam engine model projects.

This is an astonishing model, even from Marklin! I'm struck by how old it looks to have been built in 1964. The Eastern Bloc was building locos to 1920s or even earlier standards in 1964! But what a great model! Congratulations!

Congrats Marklin, excellent choice and execution. Mine arrived today and i am over the moon. Small piece of advice. Please turn down the volume of the sound straight out of the box. I know it can be adjusted wit cv63 but my problem is that the whistle sound should stay loud but the exhaust sounds should be reduced by 30/40%. Please put Chapelon SNCF 242A1 on the list for future surprise Model.

Tato lokomotiva bola vyrobena v PLZNI ( skoda CHECHOSLOVAKIA ) je absulitny UNIKAT...dosiahla rychlost ( Geschwindikeit) 162 km / h...inak bezne dosahovala na tratiach CSR 120 KM/ H.
