I read incidents around the house last week. Finished it on Thursday and I have not been able to sleep normally since. And I’m a grown woman. Once you get past the “voice” of Bella this story is frightening. There was a jump scare in this book. How does that even happen? After last night of little sleep I sort of wish I had not read that book. lol

I’m with you on Brom. I read Slewfoot and thought it was just fine, but a 5 star read, no. However, I kept the book for my Halloween shelves because the art work was incredible. I wasn’t drawn to the cover of his latest. I think I’ll put Creation Lake on my list. I love a good haunted house, but they are hard to find. Not a big fan of children in horror. Thanks for the list.

I am halfway through Creation Lake so far. It’s definitely a philosophical look into the type of person who will be that sort of infiltrator, the fringe ideological/personality based activist groups, as well as some background focus on what notifies governments to do certain things. There is also a really strong flavor of the rural French region the book is mostly set in so you get some history which has been enjoyable for that world building itch!
@Zugzug3862 ай бұрын
@@larquel2 That does sound intriguing appreciate the insight and hope the second half is just as fulfilling for your read.

I've read half of the books you reviewed. Loved Coup de Grace, Wasn't a fan of Devils Kill Devils (despite his previous book being a 4/5 for me), and the ARC for Evil in Me didn't have the artwork but I really enjoyed it anyway due to possession being my huge subgenera love. I share your thoughts on the Malerman book. I tried a few and just couldn't, not even his famous Bird Box. This one, yes it's a possessive entity so I'm swayed, was his best yet. You did get my interest going on Creation Lake, so adding it to my ever growing tbr. Thank you, always, for your time in your reviews.

Always good to find some new favouites! Coup de Grace and Creation Lake sound most interesting to me. I will probably give the Malfi book a go at some point too. The most disappointing books for me in the dark genre so far this year have been Horror Movie and I Was a Teenage Slasher. I'm a big fan of Tremblay and SGJ but their latest books just didn't work for me. 🗡📚

Oh I absolutely LOVED Incidents Around the House! I'd read some of his other books and like you I felt that most of them were a miss. However this may be one of my favorite dark genre reads this year. Coup de Grâce sounds very interesting I think I'll give it a try.

Out of all the big name horror releases, Malerman has had the most positive reviews for his book. I read 2 others first and didn't really care for them. I wish I would have read this one first. Hopefully will rectify this soon.

I did the audiobook of Incidents Around the House and I did almost nope out bc of the kid voice. I did stick with it and I'm glad I did bc it's probably my favourite Malorman so far, but it was close there. Not sure if the voice got better or if I just adjusted as I got more into the book.

You are correct in my opinion about the artwork when it comes to "Evil In Me". There are games like "Exposure". You might like the new Metaphor: Refantazio game. I know nothing other than it is getting good reviews and looks like Persona.

The first book you showed had an impressive illustration on the cover, it was tasteful and restrained. The one by brom is ugly, disgusting...I don't feel like eating after looking at it. Peanuts has the best artwork in my mind right now; and I mean not only what it looks like but what the characters are doing and the whole of the picture.

Library: The Queen is on order and I have a hold on that. Just added Coup de Grâce. Incidents: since I can't get you to read Hawk Mountain I'll push for The First Day of Spring. Deeeply disturbing. Not the same level of depravity as Strange Sally Diamond (audiobook), but close. Creation Lake : Ben (BenReadsGood) liked this so much I bought it (U.K cover is infinitely better). Thank you Madam President.
