@jimbusmaximus4624
@jimbusmaximus4624 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know, steel tubing would ensure proper airflow to the inside of the cap! That's a fantastic idea, and the type of critical thinking that keeps a handyman safe. But is the tubing strong enough for those heavy duty caps on the INDUSTRIAL strength loctite caps? They're heavier and have a metal belt inside.
@TheSteelArmadillo
@TheSteelArmadillo 2 жыл бұрын
Did some testing and came to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter if you use tube or solid rod. If the caps are spinning at any speed, the stands tend to go flying almost immediately, so there’s not much time for it to provide ventilation. Better to ensure the stand is sturdy, tall, and wide enough to hold up even the large caps.
@jimbusmaximus4624
@jimbusmaximus4624 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSteelArmadillo that's what I was concerned about. Loctite caps (especially the industrial sized ones that the company uses,) can be VERY heavy when you're working at full speed and I'd want the strength of solid steel. It is a brilliant idea though! You can also put a container with a trap door under the back of your car. The trap door has a pull pin connected to a string. The string will follow a series of pulleys and end up in the users preferred area (within arms reach) of the drivers seat. The container will hold these metal doo dads and will be dropped when the string is pulled and the trap door is opened. The doo dads will fall out and render the car behind the operator immobile. The more numerous the doo dads, the increased likelihood that one will in fact puncture the target vehicles tire(s). The operator should not reverse his or her vehicle after deployment to avoid inflicting a popped tire upon himself. When the victim of the popped tire pulls over and has to use super glue to fix his popped tire, he can use the cap holder so as to not lose his cap.

You also should have a way to properly deploy lubrication...something that everyone needs. Playing the theme music to Peter Gunn while doing so is optional...

@@broadhead4311 Well I should think it glaringly obvious that the following vehicle in question would be the local loctite rep.

I see what you did there. Id say it wise for every professional homeowner to have a few dozen Loctite cap holders around the property. Never know when you'll need to open a bottle of Loctite.

I've called them paint triangles before. Perfect for holding something off the workbench when you need to paint the top and bottom of something. Never know when you need a full bucket of them But why cut off the 2" off the top? Why not make them bigger or smaller and then use the off cut for the next one?

I don’t know how I have lived for 72 years without that fancy little cap holder. Guess I’ll have to sell the farm since I don’t qualify as a professional homeowner. Sad thing is, I’ve been farming longer than this guy’s been alive.

To save money, do this from nails. You get more and you don't get angry if you lose some, and they still have strength to support caps so it doesn't bend under it. And you can quickly grab batch to hand and throw to your bag when in horry and not think twice.

If you're making a lot of these, wear welding gloves so you don't get UV burns.
