Definitely have this conversation before having kids, will save you a lot of bad mood and headaches. What we do is we celebrate my husband side of the family maybe Christmas Eve and my family is Christmas Day (we open the gift as family in my house just my kids And husband ) and then go to my moms to meet everyone.. we have games and crafts For thanksgiving my family is thanksgiving day and my husband’s family days before. Is not preference of my family is just my husband side of the family is all over the place with schedule that is easier to do it that way

My parents never wrote our names on the presents they would write a code. We had the Crack the code before we could open the presents. And some years they would do a scavenger hunt to find part of our presents on Christmas morning before the main presents. I am the second youngest of 9 so it got really complicated but it was super fun and I'll continue it with me kids when they get old enough.

This was funny as someone who had this chat with her significant other since the beginning. But we take turns with each other's family's. One year we do it with my family and the next year with his, it also helps that we spend new year's time with family so we do one year Christmas with my family and new year with his.
