In most of these, people did not hang back and let the recipient just take it all in. Their brains are overwhelmed trying to process it and people say “Get in”, “Start it” , “look under the hood” etc. It would be great to see someone allowed to process it at their own speed. But still, these are quite emotional.

I would never do this for my parents. Why? When i was 16 I found a 70 Olds cutless S restored I wanted to buy. It was 12,500. This was 1991. I saved 2k and worked all year long at the grocery store. All of my friends baby boomer parents had muscle cars. My dad was excited and we went to look at the car. We spent 1 hour looking at it. So my dad asked me how much I had as a down payment. I told him 2k. Then I am asked. “Who is going to co sign your load? Hell if it’s going to be me!. I am not going to let you ruin my credit!” I was given a piece of shit 85 Chevy station wagon and had to pay 500 for it. Fast forward to about 10 years ago. I had a 2010 BMW M5. My dad came to visit me for a few weeks. He got excited about my car. I told him I had a car for him to drive while he was visiting. My dad wanted to go to the grocery store. He asked for the keys to my M5. I smiled and said. “ Remember you would not let me buy that 70 Olds cutless? I threw him the keys to our spare car a 2000 Toyota Corolla. Lol. The look on my dads face was priceless. My mom was so pissed off. My dad would not talk to me for 2 days. My dad never cared about cars. He was a typical baby boomer who only cared about work and providing. He never showed me how to fix anything at all or how to do anything. I love cars. My kids are 7. When they are 16. I will help them get a cool car. I am not going to make my kids suffer and get made fun of for a shitty car. Lol

I can tell that this early story did affect you. Sometimes parents act or react because they have been taught that way and they don’t know any differently. Sometimes some child use this as way to do the completely opposite once they are themselves dad but I would encourage you maybe to talk and maybe ask the right question like a simple why? Once you understand from their point of view, everything changes..All the best
@jasras50032 жыл бұрын
Because your dad wouldn't co-sign for you, you harbored these revengeful feelings into adulthood and waited for the day to get him back. I bet that "gotcha" moment not letting him drive your car felt so good bro. The fact that you couldn't be the bigger person and understand times were different back then, makes you extremely petty. You're still thinking like that 16 year old. My dad did some f*cked up shit but I've become an adult, realized there was some messed up things from his childhood, but I'd NEVER try to hold that against him. Your dad didn't co-sign for you on a loan when you were 16? Boohoo. LOL.
