I recommend listening to the studio version of songs first to understand how it sounds properly. Live versions will lose a lot in the translation, and that's assuming the music video is good quality to start with. In most live versions of songs, the singer occasionally sings out of sync with the timing of the instruments etc. Lotta little things like that add up. But if you know what a song is supposed to sound like, your brain will fill in the details and make it easier to fully enjoy.

Iron Maiden are great storytellers. Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Alexander the Great are epic songs. The Trooper is based on the story Charge of the Light Brigade. Run to the Hills and Aces High are shorter songs with similar energy to The Trooper.

The bass is horses' hooves charging. The guitar riff is a bugle sounding the charge. The drums are guns and cannon firing. The vocals are a battle cry. Fantastic work to paint a musical picture of a historic event. That extra level makes this one of my favourite Maiden songs.
@andyb1653

One of my favourite things about Maiden is that many of their songs are actually history lessons. This one's about the "Charge of the Light Brigade", in which a force of lightly-armed cavalry charged directly into point-blank artillery fire. They achieved their objective, but died almost to a man. Crazy stuff, and VERY metal.

I saw Iron Maiden at Ozzfest in 2005 when I wasn't much of a fan of them. And their performance was absolutely amazing. Even at the age they were, they nailed it. It didn't necessarily make me a fan of theirs as I struggled to get into that style of singing in metal. But I always always respected them. Took until actually a year or 2 ago for me to fully dive into them and become a fan. If I had to name a song to check out, it would be "Caught Somewhere In Time."

To say that Iron Maiden influenced a lot of the music that came after them is sort of an understatement, because it doesn't capture exactly how huge Iron Maiden is and was worldwide at every point in their still-going career. It's more apt to say that metal music is what it is today because of Iron Maiden, full stop. They arrived alongside other British heavy metal bands in the late 70s, and if rock and metal music as a whole rests on supporting pillars, Iron Maiden is one of those. I first saw Iron Maiden live at Ozzfest in 2006, they shared the headlining spot with Black Sabbath and it was honestly fucking amazing. I saw them two more times after that, once on the tour for their next album and one on the following tour and had a phenomenal time at all of them. When I got into playing guitar at 13, they were the songs we learned to play and jam out in our basement, and even though I couldn't sing I still belted out those notes at the top of my lungs because it's so much fun.

“Piece of Mind” was my first Maiden album back in 1983. Fantastic songs - The Trooper, Revelations, Where Eagles Dare, Flight of Icarus etc etc. A year later, I got to see them live in concert for the first time, on their World Slavery Tour. Not my first rock concert, but it was my first time seeing a huge band at the top of their game, with awesome stage production. As a 16 year old kid, I was promptly blown away.

I saw them for the first time 35 years ago and was blown away, saw them two months ago (with many times in between) and I was blown away again. You asked if I ever been to a Maiden concert. I did back in the 1980s. The whole concert was awesome but what stood out to me the most that even though these guys play the same songs night after night, I could tell they still dig doing the songs. I watched the lead guitarist put his heart and soul into the songs and getting into every song. The only downfall of the concert, I was hungover from drinking tequila night before and my temples were throbbing. Imagine the feeling of having mega decibels of heavy metal music pounding in my head that night.

Maiden is defiantly one of the early Power Metal bands, but when I think Power Metal the first band/song that comes to mind is the band RAINBOW with Ronnie James DIO on vocals and a song called "STARGAZER" from the 1976 album Rising (also known as Rainbow Rising).

You HAVE to see Maiden in concert! With your wife. People around you will have to pry the smiles off your faces! My face hurts for 3 days after a Maiden concert! Take all your metal loving friends with you! You'll call into work the next day. Best night of your life!

I don't know why people are not asking for that but the ultimate and most iconic song of Iron Maiden on any planet in this universe is surely The Number Of The Beast! Funfact: Martin Birch, producer and sound technician, made Bruce Dickinson do the sream in the beginning so often, that he was throwing chairs across the studio. And that's how the actual scream for the take was captured. That was work before autotune

I went to the O2 in London last year and loved it so much. They knock it out of the park!! If you and your wife get the chance in the future once the COVID-19 gets put to bed. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I've seen Maiden twice in concert. Once in 1990 and again last summer. They still tour regularly and still kick ass. Huge spectacular stage setups and amazing energy. Worth checking out if they are ever near you! Check out Number of the Beast or Ghost of the Navigator.

I had front row for Maiden at Alpine valley. Megadeth opened. It was the Seventh Son tour. Was hands down the best show ever. I mean ever..

One thing I've always loved about this song is how the guitar is reminiscent of a horses hoof beats at a full gallop another one of their songs that does something like this is "aces high" just the sound and feel of the guitar makes you (or me at least) feel like you're in the cockpit of a spitfire during the London blitz frantically fighting to defend your homeland

Song was their interpretation of the poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" which was written about an actual battle during the Crimean war. I've seen maiden 7 times between their Number of the Beast album and Seventh so of a Seventh son album...... always brilliant...... I believe their best tour, they recorded as Live After Death..... I was at the Philadelphia show for that tour. Tremendous.

Life time maiden fan since ‘82. One of the things that is unique to maiden is that they only have 2 songs that have a fade out (women in uniform, a cover, being one of them. Can’t remember the other off the top of my head). All songs have an ending.
