Adam Savage’s Tested

2 ай бұрын

In between builds and when Adam just needs to decompress or reset, he turns to his favorite leather chair that he has in the corner of the cave. It's a chair that's going to be in every shop Adam ever has, and that means it's also accumulated a lot of random objects that's fallen under its cushion. Let's take a look to see what Adam can dig out of it!

To me it appears to be a Doyle & Clark 1973 replica of a Holbrook Brothers 1934 Club lounger and similar to the Paris Club leather lounger. If original Holbrook Brothers, keep it forever. lol

If you take a borescope and fit it between the nails of the bottom liner underneath the chair or down the sides of the seat where you pulled out the paper the company will sometimes brand their logo into the left and right seat rails or up inside the back cavity. If the seat has tied springs the rail along the perimeter will sometimes have a tag as well.

LOL😅 I lost my solar powered watch in the arm chair I'm sitting in now for about 3 years. I put it down one evening, then couldn't remember where. Didn't occur to me to look under the seat cushion. Spent hours looking everywhere. Gave up. Then years later decided to give the chair a clean. It was like being gifted a free watch.

Adam took 'the rules of commerce lesson' to heart. He uses that change to exchange it with goods now, rather than as a decorative element on furniture. The storage situation for it isn't optimal yet. I mean, the jar means you can see it easily, but the accessibility is just awful...

When in high school in the 80's my friend and I were supposed to meet some girls at the mall after school, which was a HUGE deal because we weren't exactly lady's men or popular. When we got home we discovered that his car was on empty and we had no money so i suggested we check the couch cushions at our houses. Together we managed to scrounge $.78. Gas was $.89 a gallon so we got almost a gallon and managed to make it to the mall and back.

If the thrift/antique shop is the one I'm thinking of, the very desk I'm sat at now came from there around the same time: the summer of 2011. It was part of what sounded like a huge shipment they'd got in from the north of England. It might be possible your chair was part of that shipment. You'd love the design on the desk I got from there. It's beautiful leather-topped 1940s scottish pine, looks like it weighs a million pounds, but is cleverly arranged like a door-on-filing-cabinets fashion so it comes apart so it can be carried easily in pieces.

The cushions and cracks of chairs and couches are truly The Void. When you loose something ti those cushions you'll never know if you'll find it again and while looking, you'll never know what you'll find instead! The most interesting thing that I've found was a pocket size guest book in a recliner armchair my family had. In it were all sorts of well wishes and comments from family 5 years ago to my Ye'eo (Grandfather) when he was sick in the hospital an eventual passed away. The guest book must have been for all his visitors to sign when he was in the hospital.

Chairs and couches truly are a time capsule of "things you carry in your pockets". I cleaned my reclining chair a few years back and found a AA battery, most likely from the channel changer with a back that keeps falling off, a plastic Easter egg (containing $1.50 in quarters) from one of the times we hosted Easter for the family, a small package of gauze strips that came from when I had a tooth removed and slept in that chair during recovery, and an offset hex key from who knows where.

I feel like this could be some sort of literal couch gag segment Adam could do once a month or every once in a while when he comes across some eccentric things in the shop, and just present it as a "Hey, viewers! Look what I found in my couch!", and then spend 15 minutes going over the items, just to have a segue to just give us good stories.

A “reflection” chair is a must in all shops, it’s a place to sit and relax and allow your mind and brain cells to rejuvenate. I to have one of these mine is a blue velour wingback recliner that has adorned every shop Ive have had, it was second hand when my parents bought it in the 70s and as they remember it came from a friend of a friend who made custom furniture. Oddly enough I now make custom furniture but have yet to repair the broken mechanism that went out going on 15 years now however I’ll probably never get rid of it

The tale of this chair's acquisition reminds me of the scene from The Simpsons where Homer finds twenty dollars under the couch instead of the peanut he was looking for.

Along with the chair, it's a worthy mention that the repeated, organized, but not perfectly similar backgrounds make for additional appeal for videos from this location.

Love the chair. So much chair-ness about it. The chair equivalent of a pair of supremely comfortable beat up old sneakers. Speaking of, is that just some random pair of old Nikes, or was that the closest you could get to the McFly ones without having to remortgage the house? ;-)

I never would have thought that I’d find a man searching his chair cushions interesting enough to watch lol

I built my chair, starting with red oak to make a frame, tied springs, jute twine etc. but using modern polyester fluff and foam instead of horse hair and coconut fiber.

I absolutely get it. I have a chair I've had for 23 years, since my first apartment. It was given to me from a garage sale, and it at least 15 years older than that. It's SO COMFORTABLE!

You might be able to find out what the make of the chair is by taking a picture of it and then putting the picture into Google reverse image search.
