Surprising uses of salt

Salt is so much more than seasoning for food: it is hugely important for industry and even has applications in the energy transition that are perhaps quite surprising. In this video, Dr Taija Torvela discovers salt - what it is used for and where it comes from. We will also visit the Loule salt mine in Southern Portugal!

Another great video, professor. I relate to this video on so many levels. Firstly, I live near the NOOR solar complex in Morocco, it was nice to lean more about how salt is used in CSP. Thank you for another fascinating video. I spread salt on winter roads with a salt truck. Our yard alone, 30 trucks, may go through 1000 tonnes in a major storm event. Ontario, Canada.

I'm sure my "liked" is before the 'view' because I pause the video so I can watch little bits over a couple days - I used to tape Tennis matches and just watch them at the right times over a longer time (months - I still haven't finished a Hingis Williams from 99') - you are very relaxing so it's a more valuable video than some other's I watch

There is a three tower CSP system not too far south of Las Vegas along the I-15 called the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility. You can see the first tower from quite a distance as you approach along the freeway.

About concentration solar generation.... Sorry, but it does not make much sense to me when a simple photovoltaic panel converts 20% of the power of the sun directly into electricity. No circuits, no towers, no high temperatures, no risks... Concentration solar is never going to be a good idea...

CSP is complementing photovoltaic solar power because PV systems can't produce energy during the night whereas CSP can.
