I had a Nokton SC and replaced it by an Ultron. I found the Nokton images too "mushy" for my taste, and it also has quite noticeable distortion. On the positive side, I did like the warmish colour of the SC version. I kept my C.Skopar which is really good at 5.6 to 8 (and mostly good enough at all other stops). For "character" in f35 I am happy with a Jupiter-12 and a Canon f2.8 (black focus ring). For years I have been looking for a Summaron but never found one with clear glas (on critical inspection) at a reasonable price. Now the few clean specimens there are seem to have become collector's items.

I own the summicron asph and a zeiss biogon 2.8. I love both. The Leica is a good all rounder. The biogon has a beautiful pop. I’d love to own the FLE some day.

Nice! Yes Zeiss glass has more pop.

Hey Matt✌ The vidoe looks great👌I've been waiting for that too. I have the same combo but version IV of the Summicron, today I had the 1.4 35 S.C on the M3 in the surf park near me, the largest surf park in Europe, it was only opened in August😉 so with small cutlery of the M3 and the Leica II on the way. So I have both and like to use them, and sharpness is not necessarily relevant for me great video, thanks for creating it. Happy new year to you and your family👌 Lg Anderl

I’ve been using the Zeiss Distagon 35mm 1.4 ZM and I am blown away EVERY time. Previously I shot with the Voigt Ultron 35mm f2 and loved it too for a year or so but the - dare I say it - cinematic rendering of the Zeiss is above even the Leica 1.4 FLE which (to my mind and eye) beat it. But then I prefer how Zeiss corrects scenes. For the Leica glow, you’re right, go Leica. I’m sticking with the Zeiss. Oh, shooting M10, btw.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom13 сағат бұрын
Great, yes the Distagon is amazing and yes it beats Leica. Maybe I’ll pick one up sometime.

Nice video Matt! As you might guess, I like the Nokton. 🙂 As a M9 user I like the extra light of f1.4. Bokeh is great, colors are ok. Size/performance is awesome.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom13 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the lens loan Tobi, yes 1.4 is better for M9 and film users . Love the size!

once again a nice a video thank you. I actually own both lenses and use them about the same, just depending upon what I am shooting to be honest. cheers!

Thanks, great, yes the SC impressed me being close in some areas to the Cron

I mainly shoot street and landscape and have both the Ultron f2 and the Summicron v3. Which one I select depends on the look I’m hoping for that day. Film is almost always the Ultron unless I need great flair. Digital is almost always the Summicron v3, unless something has to be brutal sharp. So, i guess my answer is, it depends..
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaComКүн бұрын
Spot on! That’s exactly how I will use these 2 lenses.

very good comparison ... but I prefer 35mm Ultron f2 and Simera Thypoc 35mm f1.4 if I need the extra stop ...but I then I have the extra size and extra weigth 😞 so Ultron is my fav !

I have too many 35mm lenses 🙂 - a Zeiss Biogon f2, Voigtlander Ultron f1.7, Nokton f1.4 MC, Color-Skopar f2.5 and a Summaron f3.5 in LTM. I can find a reason to use each of them and use a glimmer glass on the Zeiss when I want less cutting sharp with the M10 and straight up with film on my M2 or CL. Perhaps I should consider a Cron as a do-it-all 😉

I’m a big fan of Zeiss 35mm Biogon F2. It’s got a bit of that classic glow at F2 but then turns into a modern zeiss at 2.8 onwards. :-)

Thanks Greg! That’s still on my to review list
@zoltankaparthy9095Күн бұрын
Well, no surprise, another well done review. ;o) I have the MC Nokton and it is good but a bit too sharp on the M9. I like the CV 35 f/1.7 a bit better, softer images and more glow. Perhaps it has something to do with coatings. I do not know. But you always have good reviews and plenty of food for thought. Thanks.

ok but if you have a 28 and 50 do you need a 35? same question about the 75 if you have a 50 and 90... or a 28 if you have a 21 or vice versa... or a 135 at all... do you find yourself swapping between these focal lengths in the field? i've had all of them but found myself just using 28, 50 and 90
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaComКүн бұрын
Yes just carry the combo you need for that trip/ day. If 2 lenses I do 28/50, if 1 often a 35

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I have the Voigtlander 21mm f4 Color-Skopar and the 40mm Nockton Classic which are a nice small two lens 'walkabout' combo.
@chenyang54482 күн бұрын
I have the mc version of the Voigtlander which I bought second hand. It is affordable and very competent. Because I mainy shoot street on film, I would like to look into the Zeiss C Biogon 35mm 2.8. The analogue photos I saw are sharp but not too clinical. It is small, light and is perfect on my M2 to walk around with. Do you think there are enough differences between the Zeiss and Voigtlander to justify buying another 35mm lens? Is there a thing called the "Zeiss Look"?
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaComКүн бұрын
I still want to try the Zeiss as they are normally impressive yes but from what you describe the Ultron would tick your boxes and smaller.
@Archetcetera7 сағат бұрын
@@chenyang5448 I have the Zeiss 35mm 2.8. Beautiful rendering. It has a nice pop and has character. To me, looks good for both people and places. The only downside is the 2.8.
