His Eminence's teachings are so brilliant and profound, words cannot describe. I am so grateful his teachings were archived for practitioners to forever learn from. Thank you.

I rejoice over westerners who directly or indirectly benefited from his teaching , He is so amazing that translating traditional profound sutras and scripture into brand new expression , extremely creative and lively ! ! He just knew automatically how to deal with different mindset . Would be so happy living in the same Earth where he was stayed.

True that. After studying sutra and tantra, it dawned on me that he was truly teaching them exactly, through English common speech. Genius. or, maybe, Mahasiddha. Many other lamas have tried to mimic him, but, impossible.

Many will say: he took our money and spend it on, whatever he was putting into his body. Others will understand he was squandering the money to challenge people’s ego’s. Is it not when you donate you feel great? He destroyed that feeling by spending your money on whatever, and this is the point, it’s about you giving and donating, not the enjoyment of what happens with the money, that would only enforce your expectations and ego.

"If you REALLY SEE this city of Boulder. IF YOU REALLY SEE the Mountain's of Boulder, there is no aggression." My heart goes out to you, Colorado. Your children have taken your beauty for granted. End alienation and you end aggression. Especially in a place as beautiful as Boulder.
@Gongopingo10 жыл бұрын
This is a perfect teaching for me about aggression and obstacles. To really see the skies of Boulder. No different, to really see the emanations of Buddha, then we need to purify our Karma, and destroy our delusions. Instead, we grasp like spiders, to feed our familiar delusions, which makes us blind, and so we don't see the emanations, but we can only see our very own samsaric projections, preferring to see an alcoholic instead, and other delusional minds , which Rinpoche easily triggered by talking about "giving" which easily gives rise to my own deluded mind of greed, and touching my aggression. How perfectly wonderful this teaching has been for me. Thank you for your kindness in making this accessible on utube.

OMFG, he just described how and why tonglen works, but he made it seem like he was a televangelist asking for donations. What a rascal! Maybe it did encourage more donations. Hopefully, on a subconscious level, that reinforced a healthy pattern. Bless the people who were able to be present in that room. I just discovered this is a KZbin channel - this is the first video I watched. Wow! I subbed and will watch more. I've read some of his books, but forgot about YT videos. Cool. Thank you for posting these. There's not the vulnerability of meeting an actual person, but it's a wonderful archive for those of us who never got to meet him.

Basically, he's saying that we need to relax and not be so uptight. Since few of us seem to be able to do that (even after we agree that it would be a good thing) . . . it apparently is not as simple as it sounds. He's just going into the details of some of the complications . . .

This presentation differs from traditional Tibetan Buddhism in virtually every respect. Traditionally, a valid text is identified for presentation: The Teacher gives the Sangha the text transmission in Sanskrit &/or Tibetan. Then the text is presented verbatim in English (or local language). Next, a word-by-word description follows. This is followed by a more-detailed Commentary, still given formally by the Teacher - all in English except key Dharma terms like Karma or Sangha or Bodhisattva - from start to finish, covering the core text with further detail & illustration. Often this will follow to a Q&A between Sangha & Teacher (Lama, Guru, Kyabje, etc). This clip is closest to a Commentary tone, in my humble opinion, based on my direct experience with teachers from the 4 main schools. Rinpoche’s presentation here is certainly unique.

I have tried to rationalize the substance abuse as well and found it difficult. Could very well be the nun's explanation is correct. For my own part, I always assumed it was a way to shock people out of the preconceptions regarding what a Buddhist is and how a Buddhist monk behaves - a way to short circuit the ego's grasping.

@mmattb what he means is that there is a symbolism related to your relative life ( your everyday human life. The absolute is pointing towards a more eternal existence where all human life is included but individuality is not relative in this absolute level. It is a bit complicated to watch a video and get the picture, you need to read more until eventually it sinks in and you realize on what level you each communication is given.

you know, I wish there was a forum, a website, a blog...whatever, dedicated specifically to discussing Trungpa Rinpoche's rock star ways. This way all these questions about drinking and blah blah blah...could be directed there, where they would be appropriate, and also, in theory, appropriately addressed. I am so tired of this man's brilliant teachings being clouded by all of this speculation. I really wish there was a specific place where people could hash it out and put an end to all this fuss

I think that as long as you, or we, are learning from his teachings, and know where we stand on these trivial matters, that it matters not what other people think about the subject. No? People are always going to miss the point in order to latch onto some "sordid" story that titillates their imaginations. His light shines through quite strong and clear to those of us who bother to look, don't you agree?

The reason that his cocaine and alcohol abuse are discussed here is that his addictions not only harmed himself, but also many other people, some to this present day. He also tortured animals, beat his wives (he had seven wives), and went for underage girls. So remember that his "crazy wisdom" is not wise at all, just crazy.

@TrungpaRinpoche Also, there is one other correction that I see may need to take place....he was saying "That doesn't mean that I am necessarily TRYING to raise money from you".....and not, "That doesn't mean that I am necessarily GOING to raise money from you"....And, also..."If there is somebody you become like"..., I believe this is : "If there is somebody, you WOULD become like a country parson".

actually his drinking and what not has perplexed me... so i asked about is from tibetan monastery lama in poughkeepsie, she said that at that time there was a lot of substance abuse and probably CTR was taking on himself some of that. And besides if teachers dont teach, or they die early, that is the indication of disciples' lack or merit only, not a flaw of the realized beings.
@sberu95287 жыл бұрын
+Patrick West. realized beings? Awakened ones? Teachers, students, expectations, associations etc. My guru, your guru? Robes, suits, t shirts? Fault, blame, right, wrong, the questions are so many and maybe few answers or none. I've been conscious for many years that the ancient tibetan Buddhist monk system was better suited to tibet then the west, I'm speaking personally of course. Geshe Michael and CTR both broke with tradition, as I am sure others have. Throw in Dorje Shugden and it really gets odd. What I tell my students is to relax, meditate and breathe and relax. Do not pursue enlightenment or any goals at all when you begin. Relax, be mindful, and trust yourself to reveal your dharma. It is not a choice between this and that, it is not an either or. Practice understanding with all things including yourself and teachers will reveal themselves.

Omar Ali-Shah, brother of Idries Shah, apparently drank cans of Guiness like a fish drinks water (or so I read in a blog by someone who visited his retreat). But he was never drunk in public, he was one of those ''steady drinkers'' who can handle it. Both Shah brothers taught Sufism. The heavy drinking of anyone who calls themselves a spiritual teachers seems a bit, well, odd. Anyone can waffle words, even I !!! I want to know what was going on inside Chogyam Trungpa and Omar Ali Shah ?
