What a great teaching! The 3 marks of existence: suffering, impermanence, and selflessness or the contingent nature of all phenomena, are immediately recognizable moment by moment regardless of cultural context, and apprehending and developing familiarity with those is liberation. So direct and elegant! Emaho!

I read an article written by a lower-class man who described his struggles with affording retreats. He called Buddhism the "Upper Middle Way". Every country is capitalist now and communism didn't work so we need more income equality.

Why can the Theravadins have all these centers and do all these retreat for next to free and we ending paying so much at the Vajrayana centers. You know is geared towards the upper middle class AND you can see how these retreats are held at these fancy center. We have an ocean of national parks, why can't we just tent it there, keeping the cost low?

Hello, finally the time has come! Khyentse, དུས་ཚོད་སླེབ་སོང། Hello, There are university scholars (like me) who say that Shambhala (in the Ngorpa Kalachakra) is the Mongols' Empire in the West of Tibet, (Ngari, Burang, Mustang Lo Mantang.). The Mongol Empire stretched from Kailash to Pakistan, to Irak, to Turkey. Dear Khyentse, would you like to shoot a film (in Normandy, Verneuil-sur-Avre,) with me about finding (....through the Ngorpa Kalachakra...), Shambhala?

@@inside_bhutan The day after Obamas victory in the election, in 2008, the lottery in Obamas home state drew 666. The Kalachakra of the Ngor School announces there will be a Demon King called Krinmati and the King of Shambhala will defeat him. I'm sure the Antichrist Obama is Krinmati. Khyentse must reveal this to the world, he has that power and he has the duty to have that role and responsibility.

The concept of religion (as a "theistic belief system") has been challenged and reformulated in the west since the last century. In religious studies, religion is a symbolic and practical dimension of life pertaining to the nature of reality and human existence, as well as to some kind of hope of alleviating or ending human suffering. Impermanence IS religious with no caveats.

DJK keeps it real. He knows the world is changing quickly and that Buddhism has to adapt - a great deal. Especially in the age of AI and biotechnology. I contrast him with, for instance, Alan Wallace, ironically a Westerner, who seems to be convinced that Buddhism will transform society with a few thousand people going into full-time retreats for ten years and a few thousand more doing months-long retreats. No, Alan, it's not going to work. Alan also seems to live in a strange sort of bubble where everyone is well-off and can afford to travel to his teachings and take time off from work or away from family to go on retreats. I totally do not get this vibe from DJK.

@@inside_bhutan Thank you! Frankly, the lack of discussion of these huge trends in Buddhism in the last decade or so has been concerning me, especially considering that Buddhist prides itself on being forward-thinking and socially engaged. The only other teacher I've ever encountered who is confronting these trends is Shinzen Young, and he's almost 20 years older than DJK! I've had chronic illness for 15 years, mostly psychiatric, and doctor-caused addiction, and I've had to use every resource out there to survive. Traditional practices have been hopelessly inadequate. I've seen the cutting edge of medicine and what is going to unfold much faster than we think, and the enormous implications this has for the Dharma. Perhaps ChatGPT has finally shaken us out of our collective stupor. Jack Kornfield recently had a discussion with Sam Altman about AI, and he's the same age as Shinzen. So for the younger teachers, there's no excuse. DJK has a brief video on AI that came out a few months ago where he says it is the best thing that could happen to Buddhism!
