Standing outside filming a police headquarters is suspicious and his actions were attention seeking. Police were polite. This chap took up police resources that could have been deployed else where. Don’t complain when police don’t turn up because they are dealing with people like this that want to record police purely for the sake of it because of the current climate. A silly response claiming it was company policy.

That Policeman who turned up at time 22:16 is a proper arsehole, has a serious attitude problem. I met an Essex Traffic Policeman just like him and he gave me a hard time, AND I WAS THE WITNESS to an accident. That was 12 years ago and it has stayed with me forever. That is why I don't report everything to the Police now. If they want to play games with me and stir me up, that is what happens!

Funnily enough I mentioned something you say in this comment, in a reply to a question the other day. I was being asked if I agreed with some of the hateful comments about the police, that people post. I sad I don't agree with some of them, as I don't think hate is consructive. However, I did say that I understood why some people don't trust or respect the police. Once someone has a bad interaction with police, it's very hard for that respect and trust to be held anymore. Thank you for confirming that this is true. Thanks for your continued support Rottie.👍

OFFICER: “ Excuse me sir, I’ve noticed that you’re sitting on a bench in a public space, an activity that doesn’t normally attract the attention of the police, but as you have a camera in your hand, I am bound by law to question you, treat you like a criminal and press you for your personal information “ CITIZEN: “ I’d rather not give my details as I have not broken a law and I don’t want my information in the police national computer” OFFICER: “ Ah ha. I find that very suspicious. In this day and age with terrorist threat level rising and the price of petrol rising too, we all have to do our bit and treat photographers as naughty people and intimidate them into needlessly giving up their civil rights and “ details” so we can sleep safely in our hammocks of a night” CITIZEN: Oh, I see officer. Well there are 627,000 CCTV cameras in London alone and between 14 to16 million of them in the country as a hole, According to government statistics, by 2022 there will be 54 million smart phones in circulation all of which have video cameras and the police and TFL use ANPR cameras recording cars and people by the millions every day. And last month the police announced that they are rolling out facial recognition camera vans into our streets to video passing faces. Oh and there is an estimated 10 million. Dash cameras fitted to trucks and cars ( including police cars ) constantly recording all over the country. So it seems to me that the government regards photography as a perfectly legal activity. As legal as walking a dog or going shopping. That being the case, what is it about this ONE camera in MY hand that makes you feel the need to interrupt my peace and freedom to conduct what amounts to a police interview in the roadside? And if it’s because I pointed my camera briefly at a police station ( of whatever building that was filmed) can you tell me if police stations are exempt from photography and what other buildings in the country have special no photography status. Better still, can I have a list please?

You did better than myself. Although I was 70 at the time and surrounded by 5 officers, I was handcuffed, searched, forcibly identified through my wallet and the camera content viewed. This was before I knew the law on this. It seems that they were scared of my camera and I might have been recording private cars in the station car park. At the time I was outside the police station and testing a new lens on an old Digital Hi8 tape camera.
@Stuart_George5 жыл бұрын
It may depend when this happened. There was a period a few years ago where the police were abusing legislation, stopping photographers, and seizing equipment all the time. This led to a section of the legislation being repealed and guidamce being issued by ACPO (now NPCC) about public photography. They are a little bit more cautious now, as they accepted that the need for security has to be balanced with a persons right to engage in a lawful activity.
@RonSeymour15 жыл бұрын
Stuart George This was three years ago and new guidance was in place. If they do it again and handcuff me I shall make an assault charge. I was 70, 9st 10 at 6ft 1” so no threat to them physically and no chance of running with 5 armed officers next to me. Their own guidelines say it is an assault.
@RonSeymour15 жыл бұрын
@Tony Bramhall It is now too late. They put me in handcuffs immediately and took my camera as soon as I refused to ID Consequently I have no evidence. I will sue if it happens again though. They quoted terrorism powers despite me telling them that I was testing a new lens which was true. They were scared that I was filming their private cars in the car park and feared for their families. I said that if I got the numbers I couldn't get their addresses anyway and if I wanted to I could just walk past with a hidden camera or sit in a car across the road in the public car park. Until then I had no problem with police but now I have no respect for them at all.

However, when you start filming, the police goes nuts and spew out the line about terrorism despite the fact that your 9 times more likely to be killed by the police than a terrorist in the UK.. it’s a fact!
