Really wish university would stop teaching 70 year old rudimentary techniques when we’ve had total stations for 40 years

It's important to understand how the modern technology works. It's easy to operate the current technology but a true engineer/surveyor understands the fundamental principles in case issues arise as they have a good grasp in what the instruments are actually doing.

@@NasirIKLBP no one is going to be on any actual site and have there S7 go down and then whip out a analog theodolite to do turn 90s. Mechanics don’t need to know how to swap a 1963 Chevy carburetor to work on a 2015 Toyota

If you're site layout or a surveyor and can't run bearings and a bench loop with level you have no business being on the jobsite. GPS and robots are great but without a level a surveyor is useless
