Trimble SX10 Workflow

Trimble SX10 tutoral on using the scanning features on the robotic total station. This video is a little long but full of information. If you are new to the SX10 I think you will find this valuable. I am using Trimble Access 2017.21 in this video for you guys that haven't switched to the new Access 2018.20.

Wouldn't recommended the sx10 we've had two go down on us. Sent them to trimble and found out the high resolution camera's went bad. Apparently they aren't designed for 360 scans outdoors because the sun will fry them. That was trimble's explanation anyhow, just wish we knew that prior to buying the sx10.

In regards to setting the temperature on the sx10 or a s7. Would u factor in windchill? I have to preform monthly surveys at some monitoring areas, one area some of the shots are in the 0.6 mile range. I work in Canada so in the winter there is also a windchill factor :(. For an example , last week it was -20°F (-36°F). The gun would be in the high wind area but the prisms would be in the low wind area. Would I just split the difference (-28°F)? This area I am referring to is monitoring slope stability on an open pit and data is put into an excel sheet complete with trending graphs. I don't know about the engineers but myself I would like to see the graphs trending in towards the open pit not back and forth.

Good question, honestly I have never given that any thought because it doesn't get that cold down here!!! I would think it would be the ambient temperature not the wind chill. Keep in mind the reason you are recording the temperature and pressure is to calculate the speed of your EDM. We are talking about light and pressure and how that affects the speed at which you get a return and the distance is calculated. Down here we have the opposite problem in the summer with humidity, we use the actual temperature not the heat index. I wish I could give you a positive answer but I just can't be sure unless I tested it there and it's just too damn cold for this southern boy!!! Ha!

I was never able to on Trimble equipment, probably for good reason. The logic is that you can burn your eye pretty bad looking at a prism/Backsight. You can do it with Leica, but it was a makeshift way to target the Backsight in superlow light environment where auto aquisition to center didn't work well (One of the dumbest thing in retrospec) Basically when the laser would hit the side of the prism, I would it shut off to not burn my retina & center it with the glowing node reflection....

Paul Ceglia everything you see is on the collector as I am doing it in the field. I record it right on the TSC7.

Surveying With Robert...with the repetition shor for my Controls I did three sets for each point..and I adjusted them in the office..There is an option in S6 (repetition shot) that you can do that..I dont know if Im clear..

You have standard and tracking on your measurements. Tracking means it’s always shooting a distance.

I looked and the MS60 does 30k and the SX12 does 26,600k per second. So it comes down to which software you like better. This is an older video with older software. I really need to update the video. The tools we surveyors have now is amazing.

Actually the Trimble is 26.6 all the way the MS60 is not according to the data sheet.
