Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos. They also make it in a bivy bag style by Blizzard , excellent product.

Another useful item is a "home made" cabin heater. It can be made from a 1 quart / litre paint tin, with a tight lid to prevent spillage, a roll of bath room tissue and a bottle of 90% plus isopropol alcohol. Remove the card board tube from the centre of the roll of bath room tissue, work the tissue roll into the paint tin, then fill with alcohol. Carefully replace the lid of the paint tin, so as to prevent leakage. It can then be carried, almost indefinitely. To use, pry the lid from the paint tin and ignite the roll of tissue. It will burn for several hours and will help prevent the temperature in a vehicle from dropping below freezing. Hope this is useful. Cheers.

For a home made version, the company that makes the hot hands, they also make a small blanket, that also gets warm. A test of that would be interesting to see, combined with a space blanket or bag. And, as a side note, the hand warmers now don’t seem to get very hot, but the toe warmers for in your shoe, if you don’t put them in your shoe, and say put them in your pockets, they get more oxygen and get really, really warm, almost hot. They kind of inflate like balloons too.

I had one of those. Make sure your heat source isn't expired. They don't last forever. However, the reflective surface on the inside will still be beneficial.
@BLACKIETHOMASАй бұрын
true and if you carry a few new body heater warmers to be sure it will work when you need it.

We keep cheap old wool blankets in the truck during winter for that exact reason. E-Tool has come in handy more than once too.

A small trench shovel is good to get the snow from around your tires so you can get moving again.

That looks amazing, I have just ordered one on Ebay cos I would certainly carry it in my car if it were as all I generally carry is an army blanket and a space blanket. Apparently they are manufactured here in Blighty.

I've considered something that has a chemical heater of some type, hand warmers if nothing else, but am concerned about them expiring before I ever need them, then it's just wasted money. I keep a couple of space blankets, a throw blanket, rain gear, a warm hoodie and old but still serviceable pairs of hiking boots and wool socks in both my vehicles at all times. That's in addition to always taking a winter coat, gloves and wool watch cap with me when I leave the house in the winter. I hate getting all bundled up and just throw the hat, gloves and coat on the back seat for "just in case" but I have them if I need them. I remember several people at work back in the 2014 snowmageddon in Atlanta had to abandon their vehicles and walk several miles home wearing nothing but office attire because they had this mentality of "I don't need to take a coat to work, I'm only going to be outside for the time it takes to walk from my car to the building or house." Most of them were native Atlantans that should've known better and they suffered for their shortsightedness. At least once a decade Atlanta gets caught by surprise by one of those fast moving and underestimated ice storms and so many people get caught totally unprepared.

This is a good reminder to go over the vehicle gear. In the past week I have noticed that in the morning when I leave for work the windows are all fogged up. That is a sign of the changing seasons and time for me to add cold weather gear to the vehicle kit.

Believe they are still made over here in Wales, UK by Blizzard Survival. Remembering this tragic story from 2022. "In December 2022, a tragic incident occurred during a severe snowstorm in Buffalo, New York, where 22-year-old Anndel Taylor died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Taylor was trapped in her car for 18 hours after getting stuck in the snow while trying to drive home from work. She kept her engine running to stay warm, but snow blocked her car's exhaust pipe, causing carbon monoxide to enter the vehicle."

I used to attend an annual training every January in the wilds of the West Virginia mountains, traveling from Kentucky. I kept a kit as if I was going backpacking, food, sleeping bag, stove, etc. If we got stranded on the road I simply would have been inconveniently camping, and having a damn good time. I love winter camping! 😂

one thing to remember when using something like this an the hand / toe warmers. they use activated charcoal as the heating element. the charcoal needs some O2 for it too burn. thus putting out heat. had 2 stuffed down at the bottom of my sleeping bag one night. they stayed cold until i moved them up to around my knees an they got some more O2 then they took off, heating right up, just did a sreach on this item prices ran 51 to 180.00$

That is a great piece of gear. If power goes out at home nd here in the deep south it can get cold and like you say we do get ice here in NW Georgia it would be nice tonhave to keep the wife and I warm. add some large hand or body warmers makes it re-usable. thanks.

Also, when there’s an injury/casualty you need to also treat for shock in addition to taking care of the wound, and that includes making sure the casualty is warm, feet elevated.

only $50.USD. + shipping and TAX, not bad. i guess ok for packing in my trucks emg kit. but not placing one in my back pack. but the the web page listed as a “Women owned corp” that says problems. as i do not care if a man or women is the owner or head of the board, etc. just why state it as a thing?
