I really miss winter storms, I miss snow, cold and Christmas blizzards, this is a fabulous 1974 film!!

I think this a great video from FEMA which most people either don't bother to think about or forget. Everyone should know what to do in any situation.

The music starting around 22:14 was the same music used in those old Agency for Instructional TV "Inside Out" shows that we watched in school back in the early 1980's.

In prolonged survival situation pick out your favorite family member and smother the rest. It extends your rations.

Just a few things. One, why mention getting foods that don't require refrigeration in case the power goes out during a winter storm?? Secondly, they forgot to mention that two required food staples during a storm are milk and bread. It is a law that both milk and bread must be cleared from each store during any storm.

Only for Southerners is milk and bread required for a Winter storm.

Carry a couple of big wool blankets in your car. It can save your life if you get stranded. I just bought some really good but cheap ones at Harbor Freight. Not too fancy but good to throw in the backseat in case they are ever needed.

Another thing that helps is the moving blankets.

I've always been amazed with people who depend solely on electricity, especially in areas that are susceptible to winter storms. I've always spit it between electric and gas. I use a gas cooker so that if the power goes out at least you can heat the room, cook with the gas and of course boil water.
@davidwadsworth89824 жыл бұрын
There should be a way to add on the cost of wood stoves and generators to your mortgage payments.More people would be better at taking care of their own family. Like getting a generator for the house hooked up to you gas line or oil source. And that wood stove with a cook surface.We are getting our wood stove for Christmas,and our bad storms come in Late Jan./Early Feb.South Jersey canNOT handle any snow at all. Just can't.

Even a propane camping stove will keep you warm if the power is out and Allow you to cook
@davidwadsworth89824 жыл бұрын
@@canadaeast8358 Wade yes it will. In Jersey we lose power once a month,serious we do. I have 2 twin burner propane and one single butane stove.Got 5 cook surfaces to feed family and me. Plus 20 combined bottles of fuel. After we sell and move to a lake up north,new home is getting a large generac system run on natural gas.Have a Mr.Buddy as well,just vent well.

@@davidwadsworth8982yes it’s nice to back up for sure just a small Colman stove in a small room is enough to keep warm and can mean the difference between life and death.. here in Newfoundland most people have wood stoves but not everyone like people renting apartments and what not

Not if you know how to drive them. In 2009 I drove my '77 Cadillac 600 miles a week for my job in Home Medical care. I was used as an example when other employees tried to call in 'due to snow.' I asked them not to shove in their face that I came in to work even in blizzards. I knew how to drive, my car was in excellent order and I loved my patients. They depended on me, literally life and death.
@arthurhunt6423 жыл бұрын
I prefer rear wheel drive cars. These little front wheel cars are hard to handle in snow and worse in slush.
