Great video! While I enjoy many survival-related KZbin channels, they usually omit the survival skill of “Proper planning enables me to avoid a survival scenario” in favor of content related to “I am in a survival scenario now, what do I do?”

I have a survival mindset from growing up and running the woods. I'm a hunter, I have a summit treestand (a climber) with 2 side bags,after a close call of being lost I'm now prepared for self rescue. I uploaded 2 videos. An apocalyptic scenario would be a little more than the average situation.

Great point. Totally agree. Not to mention what other stressor will take place and if responsible for others lives. Like Mike Tyson said "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." I think this should be the mental mindset and forefront of survival videos. Being in t military we trained and did every possible scenario over and over again. Yet still once we received contact things did not always go as we trained immediately band sometimes it did. However, mentally we knew what situation we were in and we were prepared to do. You have to train like you are surviving or in that mindset.

Very good and responsible video! The short story for me, I’ve been in a couple of survival situations (myself and helping others) and no, it’s not fun. It’s stressful and people could die. Thanks to the way I was brought up, I had some skills to get me through. I’m older, my wife and I are disabled and my son is autistic. I plan and carry, collect supplies for all of us. My biggest worry is “will my family be ok?” In a survival situation. So I watch to prepare for that scenario.

So, I have some thoughts. I would rather be is a community that needed to survive rather than solo. This would greatly increase my odds. I do bring fishing / hunting skills for a longer term situation but due to health restrictions quick response for short term solo stuff would be extremely challenging

Absolutely! I would more bring medical skills (as an EMT) and supplies rather than the "RARRR!!! I AM LOADED DOWN WITH WEAPONS AND KILLING SKILLS" that so many seem to believe is an inherent part of survival. Like you, I would sooner band together with like minded people and work together than be the Mad Max/Lone Wolf type.

As someone who has been in a survival situation, I can vouch for it being a scary situation. Granted I didn't have near the gear or skills that I have now so it was tougher. All I had was a knife, a lighter, my bow (I was hunting when it happened), and a steel water bottle. That was a scary ass 4 days. I may have way more skills and gear now but I pray that I never have to use them unless I'm on Alone or running a channel or something

Well said, and well stated. Your question was a great one and my answer is this: for myself, I believe my view of "survival" is very realistic in that I know that in an absolute chaos, no rule of law, "end of world as we know it" situation, I'm most likely not going to make it through for various reasons. I'm ok with that, as I know where my end Destination is, and I know Who it is that holds me in His hand. That being said, I do my best to be realistically prepared to cover those situations in which I may find myself, while still being ready to help others if I can do so, as opposed to the "zombie apocalypse/turn my home into a bunker and hold off the hordes/me first, middle and last and the heck with everyone else" type of scenario. I definitely appreciate you bringing up the very real point that a true "survival" situation would be more horrible than Hollywood.

Great points. Practicing survival skills is fun but fighting for my life in an unplanned situation would actually be terrible. And I think maybe there could be a 4th category: something like you’re out in a situation that you have skills for but you never planned on. Something like your vehicle getting buried in snow in a surprise white out or a plane emergency landing in a remote area.
@hanikaram33517 ай бұрын
intelligent humble realistic recognition of self health and capability and knowledge put into training scenarios just like you meant , fun not believing one person can survive without all that things we can buy walking 10 minutes to the stores from food to clothe to soap to aspirine , break a finger and how much percentage your skills drop and all varies on the geographical area and spots

Great video. I've been lost in the jungles of my country (India) a couple of times and both times the cooler heads of a few of us helped us to get out of the situation. Those with the temperament for "survival" rarely go to scenario 3 in my experience and stay within the limits or situations they can control. Having said that, I always love to explore new terrain and when preparedness is a way of life, you cannot help but think of how to stay in control of yourself and navigate through uncertain circumstances.

Real survival SUCKS. It always happens when you’re least prepared, and out of the blue. You’re either separated from your gear, or you’re hurt and can barely move to use it. What most folks call a survival scenario is just inconvenient camping.

That's a great video with an approach and understanding of survival skills that makes perfect rational sense. Right now, I'm starting to purchase various items to outfit a bug out/hiking/camping/survival bag and am wondering what type of material is best when choosing a backpack. Synthetic, like nylon, or a canvas material? What's your opinion/experience regarding this type of choice?
@charlessalmond70767 ай бұрын
Just my opinion but, buy the bag last. If you buy it first, don't fill it up just because there's more room. 10 C's first, sir.

Two things. First, everyone who goes out into the wild should be able to walk out into the wild with nothing but the cloths on their back or even butt naked and survive for at least 1 to 3 months the way our ancestors used to because crap happens and you could find yourself out there when something like a flash flood just washed all of your equipment away or a bear destroyed it all. That is real survival, where you pick up some rocks and wood and start making the tools you need to survive. You learn that from studying archaeology to learn how ancient people lived as hunter/gathers all over the world. If you can do that, you can survive almost anything. Second, these people who have fantasies about hiding in the wild because the government went south should know that I was in the Air Force during Nam, I was trained in espionage, and we can find anyone hiding in the wild and you could not believe how easy it would be. If you use anything that uses electricity like an electric watch, we will find you. If you use a camp fire, even inside of a cave, we will find you. You are better off in a militia fighting for your freedoms and rights than hiding where we can pick you off one at a time, when we choose. Those two things are reality that everyone should know.
@tolik59297 ай бұрын
Its important to know how , and what to do . Have some things to work with . But you want to get out of those conditions as fast as possible . That is why 72 hours is the accepted standard . If you think your going to be a murderer and preditor , your going to set yourself up to die . If you think your going to just shoot your way in or out of situations . Your a danger to society right now . Again you will die that way sooner rather than later . Being armed , but staying away from people as much as posssible is a better idea .

Still waiting to see the 'survival' video when the person has a legitimate compound fracture after falling whilst hiking of the ankle, wrist, arm etc going around collecting fire wood, baton it, build a shelter etc. The same when the weather turns fatal. I've been 'doing' survival training for well over 35 years, never needed it, and the reality of current day situations is that if you have an PLB or all weather signalling device combined with prior notification of someone of your planned routes, bug out EV's, and timings then most people will be okay. The exception to those are extreme situations like a wild fire tearing up up a mountain etc, but in that case someone isn't stopping to build a shelter etc. Most 'survival' training is based on WW2 E&E which has been refined by both the military & civilian sectors and has become a huge marketing opportunity. Now what most people call 'survival' skills should be pushed into bushcraft/fieldcraft & general living off the land techniques categories. PP&PPPP; if you know what that means then you'll be okay. The last thought is one that is rarely discussed but seen in shows like Naked and Afraid and it is the most important; the mental conditioning & resilience of the person. Walking out into the bush when you have planned it, does not psychologically prepare someone for the SHTF moments & every person thinks they will cope mentally until they break their leg miles from help, get stuck in a blizzard with hypothermia or in the desert with no water & heat blazing down on them. See how far a pocket survival kit gets a person in those situations.
