I would have 25cm long 0.25mm flourocarbon leader with a loop tied at the end to every hook, why? Simply because that is MUCH easier to use injured or with cold and stiff fingers. there's a reason why both lifeboat and parachute harness kits are set up like this, it has been found that many wishing to use those are injured and/or borderline hypothermic and likely full of adrenaline (shaking hands and little fine motor skills). if at all possible a couple of small fishing flies (size 14-12) those can catch fish (frogs...) Without bait and you can then use the guts to get more... Also you can use fishing hooks to catch birds... So rarely wasted

We call these snelled lines, store brought hooks already attached to a leader with a loop in it. Great tip najroe!
@najroe

@@canadafree2087 I make them myself, but Yes. I Even have a set of old traditional Salmon flies with horsehair snoods I made so the making is kind of easy for me in comparison.

I put together something similar. The tin is smaller and leaves less room for redundancy. Through a combination of inspiration and evolution, I came up with a tinder that lights with a spark very easily and doesn't blow out unless you're really trying. I like to do a burn time test on different birthday candles. I found one that burns for twenty minutes. I always put a fresnel lens in my kits because it might help to conserve resources but my tin is so small I had to trim the non functional edges off and round the corners so it would fit. I use a kevlar fishing line for my compact chordage which I think is 75 lb test and I hank it the way you taught. I have a very bright flashlight with different light outputs so the battery will last if I don't need a lot of light and it has a magnet on the butt that I can use to magnetize a needle which is then stuck through an ear plug to make a floating compass. The ear plugs are good for fishing floats also. It has a folding ceramic blade knife that is very small and sharp. I also use ranger bands to hold it closed because I have a lot in a small space. I always put allergy medicine in my kits because, in my opinion, it's the one pill that might actually save you life.

@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft Excellent video! I saw my first pocket tin PSK back in about 1980 and have been comparing others and building my own ever since. The one you have in this video is the best Ive seen so far!! Ill be switching/adding some things to mine accordingly! Now for a challenge Andrew, how about doing a video where you spend 2 nights out using just the PSK and a belt knife along with appropriate clothing? Obviously, the purpose of a PSK tin is a backup in case the full kit is lost, but typically you’d still have your clothes, belt, belt knife, etc. Thanks much and good luck!

In such a well made kit like this you have to think in terms of "flat" . . . the storm matches, which gives you 5 or 6 lights, vs a bic lighter that gives you hundreds. Which is the better choice? Matches of course. You may need only one match to preserve your life. The space saved allows for other tools to save your life.

Hey Andrew, Just want to thank you for this channel. What makes you stand out from all the others I've seen is that your videos are packed with great, practical information but your presentation is short, sharp and to the point making it easier to concentrate and retain the info. Most other videos waffle on endlessly and it takes an hour to get half of what you pack into 15 minutes. I'm quite certain that you're an excellent instructor and are clearly very well versed in your craft. Thanks again....really enjoying this stuff.

Thank you for your continued survival, Skipper! A life-saving PSK. You might fit in 3 or more small firecrackers for discouraging animal predators. Bear will sometimes come near a fire at night: "Woof!" equals "Look out." Trust bruins to be hungry and persistent. Prepare your best possible weapons early on. Know how to defeat every kind of predator. Multivitamins & cough drops can furnish you with bursts of extra energy. Include 3 little salt packets for hydrating. That Buck 55 is sharp and dependable. My trusty Buck 500 and diamond sharpener are also terrific.

I would swap the regular Band-Aids for the Waterproof ones, Add a flat Keychain Multi-Tool with a built-in Prybar like the Guidesman, Punisher or 5.11 brand ones and maybe a 'Hall Pass' metal lock pick credit card. If it could be reconfigured maybe a Small Multi-Tool like the Leatherman PS4, and a Bic Lighter or Mini Bic Lighter possibly.
