Maybe a simple solution is having a text field that's got even 4 characters, with that you'd be able to write a clearly understandable code (at least for yourself) and it'd be clear on the HUD. You coukd put them o the fixed part which would look cool but also would keep a few flames as you open the door; maybe even an extra one at the top just so you still got flames all around with the door openned. 28:00: I thought you would place parachutes on both sides so it falls upside down then more parachutes open on the bottom side flipping it uppwards. You just needed to deploy them at 600m and 150m or so

Love those sandbags. To bad you can't control them as a group...you could put a few thrusters on them and set them loose on the enemy to fly around. Also I think you're trying to paranoy people with that silo... It gets creepier every episode lol...esspecialy once you release it. And that control room is exactly what I was thinking. Love it!
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
When I release the silo it is going to be creepy in so many ways ;) It would be cool if you could slave a remote control to match the flight movements of a command ship, so you could fly a full wing of fighters as one
@chrisholland88926 жыл бұрын
Nice, throw an alien skin in there at the end of the corridor... Wonder how many people that would freak out lol. As per a flight wing, wasn't there a command /fleet mod that allowed a group of ships to fly together? Thought I've heard that talked about elsewhere.

Your silo lights would look really dynamic if you gave them a staggered blinking that goes upward. Also, a transformer box in the silo would go well and add more power to the base. Here's to a victory :D
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, I should add another transformer box in there, I love that they're functional as well as good for looks :) I'm starting to think I'll adjust the lights so that they have a blink setup like that, but are only on when the roof is open, I think it'll end up looked pretty nice that way :)

If you want to make the Silo base be a starter base it needs at least one refinery and one assembler. And a reactor room too. :) I bet those silo red lights will look nice if they blink so it looks like the red dot is moving upwards. Also can see your launch warning lights linking in with the control that opens the lava door.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
The start scenario I'm thinking of for this base will be properly HARD mode, not for new players. So it'll have just barely enough of anything to survive and I'm going to put plenty of nearby enemies to create trouble ;)

The silo needs fire extinguishers and gun racks. For safety reasons. Also, is that power-saver turning off the volcano LCDs?

It would be nice if we had either of those as decorations in one of the DLC packs - though I know we've got the lockers now so they would almost work for gun racks or a staging type area

4:53 darkness is always good, though this is coming from someone who has light sensitivity issues and has to wear specialty filtered lenses just to be in a lit room or outdoors. that silo would make for a neat starting scenario, which reminds me I cant wait to get my scenario playable as I think you might like it. like the way you ended this episode and looking forward to the attack now and with the MP update coming out that should be worth the wait.

On your pallet, you could leave the Control Panel on the block above the landing gear, kind of on the side maybe, that way you don't have to add and remove the control panel when you want to move a pallet around, it also make more "realistic" sense that the pallet has a control on it. Just a thought.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That's a nice idea, would also make people think that the pallet is some sort of self movement capable device :)

Base is looking really cool now, and I love the idea of you making a new start scenario in the missile silo. I also think it would be really interesting, and challenging if you were to incorporate the "Deep Ores" mod into the scenario. I would definitely be up to restarting a new game with a new and challenging scenario start. Look forward to seeing what happens in the next video, although I do think you should have test dropped one of those assault sandbags just to see how they behave.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of making it a super challenging start scenario, with a significant number of nearby threats ;)
@XRustedIronX6 жыл бұрын
You should make parachutes on both the top and bottom of the sandbag. The bottom ones open on deploy and let them shoot on their way down, then once they're close to landing, the top chutes open and the bottom chutes cut, flipping the snadbag and letting shoot more.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That would certainly be something to do in the future, for these ones I'm actually sort of happy if they stop shooting once they hit the ground as I would like to be able to loot some of the base :)

i think you need a drop turret assault craft, almost like a giant flying sandbag but used to print sandbags. So, able to print 4 drop turrets (inverted version of the sand bag) at a time while in flight over the enemy base, which could then drop all four turrets at once. Was thinking if the arms of said craft had welders, then the end could be rotor + projector + landing gear; so that blue print could be spun to print each decoy arm. It's cargo space could then be used for salvage operations post attack. Not sure if 2 parachutes could be used 1 on top 1 on bottom to slow descent, then flip before hitting the ground.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about how you'd flip, and you're right the simplest solution would probably be to just have it flip moments before impact by having some extra parachutes set to deploy 50 or so meters above the ground. Not sure I've got the power resources to fly something capable of printing things just yet, but maybe in the future :)
@darthlink16876 жыл бұрын
I was kinda wishing you would have shot another rocket once you got done with it all just so we could see it going out with the lights there. But you will do it later. :) You did a great job on that interior! I was thinking maybe you could do an episode to showcase what you have done so far for people that are new to space engineers or just your base. Its something to think about for a later episode. I have a friend that i want to show your base off to so i can get him to play space engineers with me haha. I wont expect anything from you. just some ideas i hope you will be able to use now or later. I am looking forward to the next episode! Play on!
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Oh don't worry, you're right I will be using the base to launch more missiles in the future :) I will probably do a big showcase episode when I close in on 100 episodes (or maybe even for the 100th), it mostly comes down to a time thing with those sorts of episodes though, to put something together that's not completely self indulgent requires a lot of time and planning, so I try to make things like that for something special :) Of course you can show off the base by going to my workshop and downloading the world save, at the moment it's updated to episode 65 but I'm planning on uploading todays episode after the next is released so everyone can have a crack at doing the attack themselves :)

It would look really neat to have the lights in the missile launch tube with a blink offset so that they are running sequentially up the tube.

the volcano displays are cool but the gap you have keeps jumping out at me 0:22 1:29 you can see the rock wall inside and it is breaking the illusion as it can be seen even from long distances if your at the wrong angle. have you tried adding another row of screens around the door so the door is actually too big to fit the hole and instead sits just below, maybe it'll be worse but i would expect it to appear practically the same but without having any visible gaps from any viewing angle/distance
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
There's no way to improve that gap sadly. It's the nature of the grid sizes matching perfectly meaning that I can't get the small LCDs into that gap :( I think if I added more to the door I'd run into a couple of problems, the big one being the extra weight would mean reducing the number of O2 gens, then I'd also probably not be able to get the door as close to being in the proper position as it is

I like the idea of making it a survival base. A place to start. You should add some audio blocks that repeats messages or whatnot. Gives an idea to the player what might have happened. Recorded by you of course. I'm sure with the scripting and timer blocks you can have instructions rolling on the LCDs and such. Really looking forward to the next episode. Are you bringing your Goose to dismantle the enemy base and bring the parts/components with you back? EDIT. Ohh. the pallets. I like them but they seem a tad bulky. Have you checked what it would look like if you used the catwalk to make it somewhat of a metal, lightweight pallet? Or try another color on the ones you have now maybe.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I hadn't thought of recording anything myself, but did want to have some spooky sounds around the place and maybe an easter egg or two :) Yep, I'm planning on bringing the goose and a salvage trailer :) They do look a little bulky, but I like that I have a spot where a theoretical forklift could load them, plus it's always a bit of a tradeoff with vanilla designs for these sorts of things :/
@davfree97326 жыл бұрын
If you want to create a story based opening for survival, sound blocks would be useful in that you could have a broken sound and light block at the starting point. Then as you go further in, you see alerts flashing and watnot... Ofc, this raises the question, what did your engineer have for lunch that had him sit through an evacuation of the base, on the throne. Perhaps a narrative of, the base fought to the last resource and drop of power, and was evacuated, with a self destruct timer you have to turn off before you begin to restock and repower the base somehow.
@macgabhann11086 жыл бұрын
you should also add in the forklift from your light echos series somewhere as that could be what was used to move the pallets around.

@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
It's a pair of mods, you need the Text HUD API and Build Vision so that you can use it :)
What about creating a mobile charge pack? Have a solar cell on top of a battery on top of a merge block with light armor around it. You could create a small pad near the entrance of your base that had these packs charging and you could place them on a charging port for your rocket base. You could use these as recharge packs or leave them in place on structures as a small source of near continuous charge. The great thing about these packs are that you could strap a couple of landing gears to them and leave them anywhere to charge, so they don’t need to be kept near the base or in the line of fire. Or you could have a couple of these connected to a mobile recharge station (aka a flying battery attached to a couple of solar panels, which could be deployed through out the area and be out of the line of fire.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That would be a pretty cool system, certainly very flexible and would use a similar deployment vessel to the sandbags. The plan I've got (which I'm keeping secret for the moment) will be far more involved and ridiculous, but if it all fails and falls apart I'm totally going to be doing something like you suggested :)

I've got a few ideas for some fun things to do with the base when I finally feel it's complete, it's so big now that it would be a nice 'adventure' style map among other options :)
@derpedkajar3126 жыл бұрын
Should put a base map in the common area with the kitchen/tables in it
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, sadly there's no free space as all the cubes are occupied :(
@morgansmith15296 жыл бұрын
maybe half-construct some of the blocks on the palettes?
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
You certainly could do that and I think it would look nice, I've been trying not to do that so much lately due to the performance impacts. But this could be one of those times that it's worth it though :)

If you're gonna go to space, can you name the main ship rx39487. Maybe it could kinda look like the original ship? I dunno I just think it would be cool. Also 10:52 is a griefers dream
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That it would be, just a pile of warheads lying around :P
@jamesmyers74186 жыл бұрын
You seem to have rotation issues. You can easily rotate it by holding control and then pressing a rotate key.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
No rotation issues except for the silly autorotate getting defaulted to on when the game rolled back from the last multiplayer test :P
@jamesmyers74186 жыл бұрын
Splitsie, I mean just when you tried to place that landing gear, you can just Ctrl rotate key to turn it 90 degrees. It just makes it a tad simpler to place a small grid on a large grid 🙂
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Ah I get what you mean now :P Yeah that would have been smart :)
@Nethan20006 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it really works for a scenario if the silo's only purpose is to be grinded down for components. Your current scenario is much better -- a small shed that needs expanding and is threatened by drone bases. I'll waiting for that attack. I wonder what's gonna go wrong.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
The silo will be moved somewhere where you're under threat and it's your only safe haven, plus I may put a few other surprises in there ;)
@Nethan20006 жыл бұрын
It might be cooler if the silo be your objective, not the starting point. So you'd need to finish the missile and launch it at the base, perhaps using the coordinates recovered from a crashed scouting drone or something. Also, finding that turret would be more impactful if the impact is made with 5.56mm bullets.
@mwbgaming286 жыл бұрын
this would be a great world for multiplayer especially since guns cant shoot through "voxel armor" (that's what i call it) and there is no uranium on the planet (and therefore no ship based missiles) which means no missile spam from people like me (i tend to cover my ships in missile launchers and use a ripple fire script so i can quickly drill into bases like yours XD) it would definitely make multiplayer battles much more tactical and make bases last longer in battle (even without shield generators) i really wish batteries only held around 10% of the power they currently do (for realism) realistically (based on volume for a Li-ion battery using the Panasonic NCR18650B cell) a large grid battery should only hold around 250kWh (input of 125kw output of 500kw) a small grid battery should hold no more than 50kWh (input of 25kw and output of 100kw) a power box should hold around 10kWh (input of 5kw and output of 20kw) that would make your world much more realistic (though there should be a generator mod so people are able to build bases and vehicles that still work properly) steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509327181 thats a good one once the power outputs are adjusted to realistic values then you can mine for oil and use that in bases where you cant put a giant solar array
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I think the batteries were balanced for use in flying vehicles and for that Keen got it about right for atmospheric craft on the earth like planet - the butterball with 3 batteries can make a couple of runs to the mine then needs a recharge, if it were realistic it would be almost non functional. Having said that though, it would be nice if there was an alternate power source for those of us who like a little bit of progression. So that the nuclear reactors are a point in the distant future while we use solar, geothermal, fossil fuels etc :)
@snappedpixel.6 жыл бұрын
just a suggestion for the missile silo, what if you were to add the nose of a missile with the side cut partially open and no warhead inside, sitting in the corner or something
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I might have to make something that looks missile like that I can rest on a pair of pallets nearby, since I don't think the real design is all that missile looking :P
@snappedpixel.6 жыл бұрын
i get what you are saying, also the missile reminds me of the Kestral from FTL but shorter
@relentlessdragon27516 жыл бұрын
for the lights you said they was for during attack why not set them so that from the command room you set condition red then all the white lights go off redlights come on and the silo door opens sounding an alarm then the light you put in the silo tube flash like on the sola tower like thye are guiding the missile out this would look cool and would also be like other people was there and the lights and alarm is telling the go to action stations
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of tying those lights to the lava door, when open everything goes into launch mode, when closed back to how it normally is - as a simple way to control it :)

How long is your current load time? I managed to get it down to just about 5 Minutes for my new Save...
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
My situation isn't really a good comparison as I'm fortunate that I've got space engineers installed on an NVMe SSD, so even my scenario loads in under a minute. I don't have many mods though and it's those that tend to make loading times exponentially worse
@selorkiith44616 жыл бұрын
Splitsie Oh okay, yes an SSD would indeed help :) And maybe not that many mods... my Fully modded save has a current load time of about 20 Minutes :D But good to know that SE gets along with SSDs, might get another one for it.

I have serious questions about the pallets... you have no forklift and no room to maneuver one and pallets in areas behind doors that they wouldn't fit through 😜
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Shhh... don't ask too many questions ;)
@nickdiemer78086 жыл бұрын
Obviously they are hover pallets didn't you see him just push them around just by bumping into them? They only maintained the old {pallet} design because it was convenient to put the micro hover jets in the already layed out slotting from the old school generation of pallets. As a side note they actually did manufacture non hover pallets made out of the new and sturdier lightweight metal material at their inception to ease industrial company's transition into the new longer lasting more durable material without the need to obsolete all their old transport tech in one go.
@jaymiddleton7726 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a perfect project for you, Splitsie; Hover pallets that move around a factory area autonomously

so i've noticed you keep talking about the parashute hatches as to 'flip' over the sandbags... you could just project it upside down and carry them with the turret down already no?
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
It was mainly for the ease of storage prior to moving them out, resting things on a turret is a high risk exercise - their collisions can get strange :/

For once, the super dramatic music fits what's going on on screen! Not making a dig at you, just SE youtubers in general, does welding a mining ship really need O Fortuna(or the like) playing in the background?
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
The music you're taking a dig at is the SE in game music, personally I quite like the modern orchestral approach they took to the music and after many, many hours listening to it, for me it just doesn't feel like SE without it :P
@Voidwielder6 жыл бұрын
Splitsie I don't think most of the soaring orchestral or hard rock pieces I hear in most videos is from the game, otherwise my games music choice sucks. I don't think I've heard anything but gently tinkling music, but that may just be cuz my potato can't handle anything other than deep space without chugging...
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
The in game music is context sensitive, so if you're not under attack (not sure what it uses to define being under threat) you'll only hear peaceful tracks. It's an option you can change if you just want random tracks though
@Voidwielder6 жыл бұрын
Splitsie Oh, ok. I'm still working through what all the controls and settings do XD I don't mind peaceful music while I'm just R&Ding :)

answer to power problem make a base that connects to the main one that just has batteries solar panels and turnets to protect it and they are connected under ground
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I think you might like the secret plans I've been working on for providing additional power ;) As a side note, the reason the bases aren't connected is that SE doesn't like large single grids when you have airtightness active, so I try to keep the distances down where possible
@squirblenurble4816 жыл бұрын
If you have pallets doesn't that mean you need some way to move them.
