Is it waterproof when the surrounding ground gets wet? That is my main concern...

@@Siggerou1993 depends on how much rain. It is just a tiny log structure for camping. But with a tarp over it you will stay dry. Mine was fine. It was up for 8 months before forest service people had me take it down.

That's the only thing I see a problem with. Create more drag and reduce the maneuverability. Good for just starting out but kayaks are far better without them with proper techniques.
