I'm never around snakes but i thought what the hell i might need to know how to do it if i ever do get in contact with one. I learned something new. Seems easy enough. Seems... 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

Gotta love The Waifs. I have a smart bandage and a First Aid kit, but this looks tempting. A very good kit.

Great video! I'm wondering if this should be left on in an emergency survival situation when there might not be medical care available for hours or even days, or if it should be used at all. Probably not, I'd guess.

If the bit was located on the ankle would it be necessary to remove the clothing? Or can it be done over the clothing as long as it's tight?

I have read removing clothing just spreads the venom, bandage over clothing.

Human bites are actually extremely dangerous because of the bacteria in our mouth. Irrigate the wound for at least 15 minutes.

If your survival kit is say a couple hundred metres from where you’re bitten - should you walk it or stay at the bite site and wait for help there? Thanks

That's a dilemma whether to remain where you are patiently while the venom courses through your veins or to walk to help increasing the circulation of venom in your system. I'd suggest tearing the thinnest of your clothing and use it as a makeshift compression bandage to increase your chances of survival as you seek help.

This is about probability of survival, if there is no one except you, then common sense will be to walk to get your bandage rather then waiting and die, but first I will take out my shirt to tie a tight knot 2 inches above the bite area.

Kamey Pullen FYI, this is for snakebites In Australia and there hasn’t been good evidence for this practice in the USA. You should not tourniquet, the whole idea is to avoid concentrating the venom in the extremity. In the USA we actually raise the bitten extremity to help diffuse the venom over the lymphatic system (not venous), which decreases the chance of limb injury/loss, necrosis and complications from cell lysis like acute kidney injury and cardiac arrhythmia. You just need to get to the ER ASAP and know who to call for antivenom

Remake the video. Everyone hears all sorts of rumours about whether to bandage down and then up the limb, or just up the limb, or what is it they’re supposed to be doing. Giving an example that starts at the end of the limb gives no clarification. You’re delivery was good.

In First Aid it is starting at the bottom and making your way up that is how I was taught in my First Aid course

Shouldnt you be bandaging down the arm not up. By coming down your not chasing the venom toward the glands or heart

Hi Dave, thanks for your message. We follow the guidelines recommended by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Australian Venom Research Unit (AVRU) that state bandaging from the extremedy upwards. There are other methods that people use but this is the one that we subscribe to. I hope this helps!
