I love the survival bucket idea for a vehicle. A standard 5 gallon bucket with a lid. Dribble some paint on it. Make it look like a contractors bucket. It won't draw any attention, and is less likely to get stolen.

I would recommend adding TP too, for when the food has ran its course. If you are in a situation that you need that (flooding, hurricane, etc.) not only will it be a crappy situation (see what I did there) but chances are your TP will be ruined. Two weeks is a long enough time without proper waste disposal to get something like cholera.

Looks like a nice kit for the money. The water filtration system is a great addition as well as the cook pot and stove with fuel. I understand that it not an al inclusive kit, but it's got the basics to sustain a person over a period of time provided that they can have access to water.

Spoons would be necessary if you put it in the car and leave, and I would add salt and pepper. Minor things to make a bad situation a little easier. I bet the food tastes good. Freeze dried food has come a long way since the 1970's. Good choice Brian. It is easy to say "I would have put..." In an emergency, I would love to have this with me.

Thanks for the review. Based on what you've shown, it looks like this is more geared toward the "ice storm" type scenario where you're stuck in the house without power. If you get this to toss in the trunk of the car, add a $5 hobo tool from walmart.

Is this for running out of your house or is it for bugging in? I know a lot of people don't keep more than 1 or 2 days of food in their homes. (Shop for dinner every day) We have always had a minimum of a week's worth of food and now at least 2 months.

Live food don’t spoil, start raising guinea pigs .. As herbivores, guinea pigs naturally feed on large quantities of forage such as grasses, legumes, weeds and herbs. But they can also be fed on kitchen scraps and are very good processors of waste. Adult guinea pigs weigh between 1 and 2 kg and can provide a family’s protein needs for a day, though the meat is enjoyed for its taste as well as its nutritional value. The meat contains more than 20% protein, which is higher than in chicken, beef, lamb or pork. And with only about 8% fat, it is also leaner than most other common meats. It is also rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin B, and as such is a healthier as well as cheaper alternative to other meats.

OD GREEN - I am going to guess you are serious about the guinea pig thing. It is a rodent variety. Along with rabbits being pound for pound the least expensive domestic animal to feed for food. I never thought of guinea pigs so thanks for the idea. I personally wouldnt turn down any protein in a survival situation. Along those lines city pigeons are good too.

No spoon or fork, most of the food is flavored rice or soup. No salt or tea/coffee. Akward to carry around if you have to bug out. One mylar survival bag? What shelter do you use for the other 13 days? If I'm honest those bags dont look like 8 servings to me. I think the idea is good but the average person could do better in their local supermarket, and you could tailor the food to your tastes. Enjoy your video as always Brian. Regards

I didn't see any water in that kit. The filter is nice, but if you don't have a water source, then you don't have water. Also, in my experience, that type of food takes a huge amount of water and fuel to cook. Usually about 10 minutes of boiling and it makes a meatless paste, much like the patriot storage food. I've never like the essential storage food for this reason. It takes a ton of water to clean it out as well. Mountain house is much lighter and takes about 1/10th of the fuel to prepare. Also Contains meat.
@CptBongue
@CptBongue 4 жыл бұрын
I have to say you get a lot of bang for your buck at the price point. For Hurricane preparedness, my go-to MREs are from Mountain House, and those alone will set you back $85 or so, and not offer as many meals, calories or protein as this. I'm curious as to how they taste
@tacorita1158
@tacorita1158 4 жыл бұрын
It seems you only get carbs and a lower nutritional value from this. Mountain house is best on the market. Granted it's a bit more but myself would rather have real protein than something made of soy and fake meat. Your choice but I'm sticking to mountain house. This kit isn't really a kit its poorly made carbs with a pot and filter. No utensils or cups. Do the homework.

That kit looks nice, but don't have some of the food one would need in it. Just plain stuff which is hard to eat regularly and I would prefer to get my own food elsewhere and keep it where I can get to it when needed. The pot is nice to have, but if an emergency comes up people will have their own cookware handy and would not need another pot to clean. The water collection system is nice to have though and something everyone would need for an emergency to collect and purify their drinking water.

So what would I add or change .... lots of food but I didn’t see any kind of spoon or fork. I would add a Mora companion, cheap and will do what it needs to. Someone said toilet paper, that would come in handy. I would change the stove to something else, EmberLit would be a good choice for a kit like this. I think the pot is overkill, something a little smaller. A tarp with some kind of bug protection, the issue could be during prime bug season. And in case you have to move or even if you want to use the big bucket, a small pack or even two if have someone with you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oICsc5eworOMnNk It really come down to what will you “ NEED”. Your already over 100 lbs with the bucket.

I do not like paying extra for someone else to choose what goes into an all-purpose, do-everything survival bucket. I prefer to NOT mix dry food, water containers and non-food items in the same bucket. I have sealed buckets of dry food and dry beverage mixes. Those very heavy cases of bottled water and five-gallon jugs of tap water are kept separate from the food buckets. First aid supplies, N-95 masks, nitrile gloves, water purification tablets, potassium iodide tablets, baby wipes, facial tissues and small water filters go into another bucket. There is a kitchen box with nested small cooking pots, plastic lid lifter, manual can opener, cooking utensils, paper plates and disposable cups and flatware, metal measuring cup, garbage bags, paper napkins and pot holders.The propane camp stove and some small propane cylinders and butane lighters go into another box or plastic bin. The butane stove, butane cylinders and additional butane lighters go into another box or bin. There are also boxes of small pieces of dry wood and cardboard strips for the rocket stove and the solar oven has its own box. The porta-loo is a five gallon bucket with a snap-on plastic toilet and there are extra garbage bags and a couple of bags of peat moss to turn it into a composting toilet. Every bucket, box or bin gets a label on two sides and the top so that I can quickly find what I want when preparing a meal or performing first aid when out in the wilderness (yes, we practice evacuating and off-grid camping). And the containers are easy to load into the back of a truck or into our RV if there is the need to evacuate quickly. Only by practicing under realistic conditions can you discover what works and what does not work for you and find the holes in your planning. I would not blindly rely upon an all-purpose survival bucket designed by someone else.

That bucket is not a survival kit in the least. It is a nice looking food storage but, that's about it. There is to many holes in it. No paracord or other cordage, nothing to get you out of the elements besides that "sleepingbag" no knife, which you mentioned, only matches for a fire. I could keep going. If people would stop reviewing junk like this maybe companies would stop peddling stuff like this that can get someone in trouble if they are in any real emergency. The only people that think this is a good two week survival either know nothing about survival and preparedness or know to little about what it takes to survival. With all that said I like the kit. It would be a great addition to already existing foundation. Just please people don't buy this junk thinking you are getting a ready to go survival kit.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, they don't actually call it a survival "kit" I did that. But is not designed to be a wilderness survival kit. It is to keep you alive for 2 weeks, which is the definition of survival.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but...an a last resort emergency food source it's OK...just ok...one loses their house or is evacuated from or trapped inside to hunker down...potato soup, broccoli soup, chicken stock soup...all creamed...is not exactly a morale booster or something that kids may be looking forward to for 2 weeks. displacement and emergencies lockdowns are demoralizing and scary...a little egg and meat protein and some semblance of an normal meal would be essential. I've yet to hear of people starving to death from a natural disaster. Having said that...if price point is an issue than this is a good deal. To me this is just remarketing end of world prepper food...which isn't a bad idea. It's just 2019 now I think we're beyond soup for survival...plus the water requirements alone are somewhat concerning. Jmho and non prepper.

Wish you would've gone through the way the food was prepared and packaged. I mean to say, does it stack up to mountain house or does it taste like dog food? We know that they tend to put something together very low cost and poorly made thinking you won't use it till yrs down the road and charge you high dollar for unhealthy packaged food. It happens to much and myself don't believe in these companies that do this type of thing. Praying on ppl for a dollar and giving low quality stuff. Far as I'm concerned you get a pot and water filter for the cost of the whole bucket!

I hit the dislike because of what you said about people who do not carry a knife. Shame on you for your narrow-minded thinking that one-size-fits-all. I hear so many "experts," standing on their soapbox, preaching that every man, woman, and child needs a knife. Some people do need a knife, and that's fine. The reason for that is, that is the tool that works for them. Some people do not need a knife, and that's fine. The reason for that is simple: every person and situation is different. EMT shears and a folding box cutter are the tools I use because (except for when I'm helping Mom with the gardening) EMT shears or a box cutter have been the only cutting tools I have ever needed in my life.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
