Would love to see a video on a shorter walk "get home" video where you don't need overnight equipment. I'm thinking about starting a channel just to do this myself. Living in St. Louis, I would have to choose my route very carefully because I may get shot in the back by a drive-by while walking through many areas. Not kidding.

Don't worry I believe ya on St Louis being dangerous lol...I would think the major differences would be swapping out the majority of the food for a lightweight chest rig, an AR and soft body armor would be a good start :D

Especially right now with the tensions. Try walking 10 or 15 miles with body armor under a big shirt to hide it! That would be a ball breaker!

Very educational! Must be humid as heck out there in Florida year around. I carry liquid IV powder to mix in with my water. Provides extra hydration per pack. 1 bottle with liquid IV= 2-3 extra bottles of water

Humidity is nuts here, about 80% usually or higher, temps in low 90s, feels like 100+. Hydration is everything. I like the idea of IV powder...where do you purchase this at?

Without going into my background a lot Ill just say I've done stuff & have had a lot of training over the years. I also am an avid backpacker & enjoy long distance hiking/survival. I watch these videos more for entertainment than content but have picked up a few cool ideas along they way doing so. With that said, I don't usually comment but always find peoples bags to lack in areas while also being extremely over stuffed in others. People love to "what if" themselves into insanity while rarely taking into consideration the weight of pack & physical fitness required to complete the task. You have built a great bag although I may be biased to it as it is almost identical to mine. This is by far the most realistic/prepared set up I've seen on YT. I often get people asking me what they should put in such a bag & I will now send them your way for the answer to that question as I have no desire at this time to create such a video. Keep it up & thank you. PS: You're spot on in regards to the sawyer squeeze. No matter how light I'm trying to go the few ounces more for the squeeze over the mini is always worth it. Cheers

Hey, stop what you're doing! You're setting a standard of review and show and tell where you actually go out and use it. Now we (other KZbinrs) will have to leave our desk and actually use the gear we are showing and recommending. I don't appreciate that because I kinda like sitting on my butt all day fantasizing about using my gear. Good gear choices, really streamlined. Only items I could think of adding are sillcock key and couple of other meds such as anti-diarrhea/upset stomach stuff. I have a different Redline 3V backpack that isn't available yet, considerably smaller with a bladder. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!

I personally don’t think grey man matters that much, I’ve been all over the world and some people dress tactical on a day to day basis, a lot students have cheap tactical backpacks but I didn’t realize them until I watch a lot of bug out bag videos. I’d rather dress to make those 40 miles easier.

@Michael Nonya yes and no; been on few war zones and most of people were oblivious to tactical stuff, as long as you didnt open carry firearms or bladed weapons. it is true though, that fully "mil spec" tac setup will stand out. you can be "tactically prepared" with ordinary stuff too (helikon tex makes great chest rigs and packs that offer full tactical advantages with more "civilian" look). i usually wear camo pants and 20-40 liters camo backpack with hiking shoes and hoodie. no one care for just another "military wannabe" :P .

I plan on 3 MPH on flat terrain. 2 MPH on mixed and rolling terrain. 1 MPH on rough mountain terrain carrying gear. The old Indian maps were based on time... not distance.

Bear spray is actually less potency than the human kind. It just shoots farther and broader. The bear's senses are more sensitive so less is needed.

Really well thought out minimalist kit. The best part is that you field tested it! On water filtration, after being a user of both the Sawyer mini and Sawyer Squeeze, I have switched to the Katadyn Be Free (no back flushing is needed to clean it, similar flow rate to the Squeeze). I pair it with a collapsible TPU 2L reservoir. Depending on environment, needs, and usage my other go to is the Grayl Geopress.

I'm naturally leaning out, no intentional flexing, yes the camo hat I could switch, camo is common in my area, I live near a military base. Yes smart watch is tracking and also the phone, in a real situation IF lets say its E&E scenario, I would stow both in my blackout bag. But like I mentioned in the video, in real situation I would have my traditional watch and smart watch would stay home. Jeans are 5.11 brand and have a blend of splandex and cotton making them an excellent choice when dealing with moisture and wet conditions. I appreciate the critique!

Did they read my comment about YKK zippers on your last review?? XD This looks like a good pack. I do my weekly FL rucks during the hottest part of the day, too. Latest thing I've started doing is adding a couple pinches of salt to every liter of water and I stay MUCH better hydrated. I also keep Pedialyte everywhere I can. I've been hospitalized twice from overtraining in this heat. It can absolutely kill you in no time.

My only maybe tiny grip would be the fact it is not hydro compatible but then again its really an EDC pack that I've stretched to use as a 2 or 3 day bag. Great point about the salt, you can take electrolytes to help with that like the Pedialyte or that brand I showed in my food supply, the SIS Energy Bars and stuff, that is perfect for keeping your salt levels right and all the correct balance of nutrients for endurance. I understand the concept, but what I DIDNT hear you talk about was providing for family members like you know wife an kids. By myself , ok this would almost do, but mix in others an that changes the weight game in my book, an NO rifle, hmm, not this kid an I m an OL MAN, definitely gonna have something more than a pistol. Great point, a journey like this with family would be a literal nightmare lol. My scenario is that before things went 100% to shit, family has left to stay with friends in a safe location. Myself and others have stayed behind to guard our property and possessions. About weapons, if I upgraded the pack size, I could carry a very compact AR, or maybe even fit my M4, who knows. For now, the pistol is the best option. I don't want contact with humans at all. Travel at night, skirt major urban areas, and take great pains to move undetected. Regarding those bugs, they get bad at night, but I roll up in my hammock and fully clothed with the shemagh I'm pretty much impervious to attack.

I'm a country boy, and I'm traveling to the city, traveling over 1631 km to goto a medical appointment, I'm looking to do a Canadian urban truck bag, I'm not able to get pepper spray or have a concealable firearm, hell even a long gun is iffy, do you think this loadout might suit?

That's a long trip. This load is great for a basic urban survival kit, but considering the distance you are traveling and the location, I would pack extra in your vehicle if you get stranded for some reason. Consider adding some food, extra change of clothes, shoes etc to your vehicle.

Great initiative on doing the training and recon of your area! That is a great setup for getting home anyone would be lucky to have. Layering a few folded Coffee Filters into your neck gator will improve your ability to prevent catching the airborne COVID-19 Virus. Also a pair of Low-visibility Shooting Eye Glasses will help you travel at night and protect your eyes from branches/particles. An Umbrella will help you blend in more, plus it has plenty of uses....you know it's going to rain when you have to use your get home bag!

Good point about those coffee filters. The neck gator by itself is basically worthless for protection according to the CDC, I'm using it more for concealing my face, as a towel and then a prestage water filter. I'm always wearing sunglasses but that doesn't work so well at night :) If I could find a small enough umbrella it might be a good addition, the poncho however is better IMO since it is multiuse.

Great video! Best one I've seen. Imo you are right at the ideal weight of 15 lbs. Lots of people overload their pack with stuff that isn't necessary. The only thing I would suggest is to avoid wearing camo, like the marpat boonie hat. It attracts attention in most urban and suburban areas. I would limit camo to the woods, off roads. A baseball cap would fit in.

It is hot here. I can barely stand to be outside but a few minutes. Even hunting down vermin, which I enjoy is miserable. Just carrying an air rifle feels so burdensome. I like your scouting videos. I always wish I knew more roads or what's behind something or what a particular building is for. I think scouting and observing the area provides an extra measure of security to keep us from walking into a bad situation. And you find resources and shelter you otherwise would not even be aware of.

The heat is ridiculous, makes life miserable lol. When I did that hike, it took me almost an hr to acclimate, I'm such a first worlder with my fancy A/C. The scouting and recon is probably the most fun out of the entire process, the feeling you get when you slide through the chainlink and then actually enter the building. Those structures in the video are well removed from urban areas so they were completely empty, no signs of human activity and those spots are the best. Any location remotely close to highways or gas stations is overrun with dope fiends.

This is the first BOB video where the reviewer actually used their gear. Even better he showed how you should plan and train. I've always had a BOB and a place to go. However I have never done a dry run of what it would be like. Honestly I don't know if I could. It's alot easier to fantasize about the apocalypse than practice for it and even harder to survive it.

bike is a better option, but I don't have one that fits in my car. I figured I would start with the most basic form of travel and work my way up. If I was on my bike, the trip could easily be done in a night.

i used to love these kinds of videos. this is literally the worst idea of survival. so many people spend a small fortune on kit and focus on kit instead of real preparedness. knowledge. most of these videos showcase brand NEW gear. never used. why the eff would i take your opinion on anything. i do not disagree with the idea of a BOB, and it is the most feasible level of preparedness for most people. but it usually begins and ends there. a hobby collection of random items.

Pretty sure you left the comment on the wrong video. My gear is obviously used and abused and demo'd extensively in the urban AO and even a real world on foot 15 mile hike. The kit is absolutely vital AND real world training as well. I combine both.

I did miss my camelbak, the bag is not hydro compatible. It was honestly better that way because I was forced to stop and take water breaks. Considered the container for boiling water, but since my food doesn't require cooking and since I already had the CNOC bag and Sawyer for purification, I left it at home to drop weight.

Fantastic approach for a bug out gear video. All the cool gear in the world won't be helpful if your feet are blown out with blisters and you're dehydrated. I’ve been fortunate to have been on some wonderful trekking trips and have lived out of the pack I’ve carried for weeks. I walked 500 miles across Spain in 2015, gear prep made a huge difference. As a trekker and a prepper I would suggest you look at a pair of carbon fiber trekking poles. I have a pair that when folded are under 14” and weighs under 9 ounces. They do an incredible job reducing fatigue on high milage days. There are also tons of secondary uses from supports in a lightweight shelter to the defensive ability of a 5’ pole with a carbide tip. That's a great question. If the water supply had been tainted IE treatment plants not operational or sabotage, I wouldn't take the chance. Maybe it's possible to smell or taste if the water is no longer safe?

That's a great thing to think about! I'm fortnate to have well water myself, but know many don't have that option. There could be a day we can't trust our water supply. Something else to be prepared for or mindful of.

As a long distance backpacker we have a saying cotton kills. I'd strongly recommend against wearing Jean's. I'd also throw in a lighter in there. 1 is none and 3 is 1.

@@domenik8339 Seems simple enough. 20 miles a day, 8-10hrs. I stopped multiple times during the 15-mile hike that took < 6hrs. The best option would be start at night, Hike from dust to dawk. Lay up during the day, repeat for the last 20 miles. What's your stats on forced march, have you been able to average that speed or faster? I'm guessing with better boots I'd stop less often...I probalby had an 1hr total break.
