This is a story of redemption, perseverance, and intense hordes of mosquitoes. Julie and I head down to Fairplay, Colorado where we set out on a 12 mile backpacking trip with our two dogs. But this isnt our first attempt.
Two years ago we set out on the very same trail, with the very same dogs, only to find ourselves ill-equipped to hike in 3+ feet snow drifts. We made it less than 4 miles before we had to make camp, sleep it out, and return home the next morning. Soaking wet, blistered, tired, and defeated, we vowed to one day return and overcome this tragic failure!
Now, older, wiser, and a little flabbier, we are embarking on this journey again. And we WILL succeed! We’ve done our research, we have the right gear, and of course, it’s July. So there isnt any snow this time.

If I could give one word of advice. I’ve watched a great news channel (Internet Today) for about 4 years and in that time their numbers never budged. Then they started asking everyone to please press the like button, and/or comment, subscribe every episode and it worked. They’ve commented how much it worked and really surprised them. It was something they felt uncomfortable doing but they’re so grateful and they used to get a few hundred comments and now get at least a thousand. It’s really helped getting them pushed into the algorithm. They used to work for Machinima before it went under and then went off on their own. They did still have a good sized following but they were stagnant for years. They, like you guys felt pretty uncomfortable but they now they mention how much it helps them and they’re so happy and appreciate. It’s just the 2 of them and they put a lot of work into their show, just like you two do. I’d have a hard time asking too, and would probably mumble something. But really, I’ve seen quite a few creators say that it really works, so please ask, loud and proud, every video. No mumbles! 😅 Explain how it helps. I don’t think many people understand how engagement helps but think they’d happily do that if asked. And never stop, make it a natural part of your videos until you don’t even think think twice about it. Yup I’m giving you guys a big pep talk! Now go kick the hockey puck into the basket for a touchdown! 😄

Two things. Avon Skin so Soft body spray. Reeks of citronella, non poisonous. Worth every penny for type O blood types who are mosquito buffets. Second, spoonful of sugar, 8 Oz's of your preferred milk, frozen fruit; you've got ice cream. Basically a smoothie blended longer. We've even used powdered milk and ice water, the key is frozen fruit and the longer blend than just making a smoothie to drink. You can make milk ice cubes, too, to use.

I started following Ben from the start of his first van build back on the DCMV channel. From the first video, I enjoyed his humor and appreciated his in-depth information on what he was doing with the van. Plus, Rocky and Archer always put a smile on my face; those sound effects! When Julie first showed up, I was stoked to see she made everything even better! So, I'm definitely here because of you two and the dogs, whether it's van build stuff or adventures. I love the humor, sound effects and realness of your videos. And even though it may be a ways off, I'm looking forward to seeing Julie's first Crusty Crusaders trip! 😎 As far as I'm concerned, two channels give us twice the fun so I'm all in, just don't burn yourselves out! I’m really proud of this community helping these two out when/if they can. It says a lot about the viewers and how much we all really enjoy Ben & Julie and the puppers. To me, I always feel happy at the end of their videos. There’s nothing faked for drama or suspense, it’s just pure enjoyment. I’ve really enjoyed the new content because you’re both so creative and just funny but I’ve enjoyed the builds and the pure nature ones like this too. Do what makes you happy and yes more time to repeat the new channel will help. If we all have our notifications on we should be good. I know you two have been working like crazy making videos and shorts and maybe feel a bit burnt out a little maybe? So yes, do whatever you need to do to enjoy your lives more. You can go back and do those activities you missed out on. And I’ll just say I’ve seen other channels where the woman is used in an exploitative way either looking topless in thumbnails or taping walking behind them in the bikinis that basically look like thongs. But for extended periods of time. It’s a cheap way to get views and Julie is stunning, and I know Ben and Julie could do that and get a ton of views. If some women are cool with that, sincerely more power to them. No shame. Do what feels good! But I’ve seen many look uncomfortable, and that’s not appealing at all. I just knew Ben would never ask Julie to do that and I’m pretty sure Julie would have some interesting suggestions for anyone who pushed for that 😂. You have great respect for each other. Another reason DCMV and Out There are so loved in my opinion. Maybe I should break my comments up for the algorithm? 😅 People probably think I’m Out There anyway! 😊

I’ve been diagnosed with advanced frontal lobe atrophy, there’s a longer name but I can’t remember, and it has really affected my way to communicate. We know commenting on others posts help the channel. But you’re really kind and I appreciate that. I think YT changing user names has messed up knowing who was who if the name is completely different as mine was. @@dogcatmanvan i just did part of the Appalachian trail in Tennessee that was amazing, Kawaii was awesome! But want to do,Sequoia national forest, lots of Alaska, the drive from US - Punta Arenas. Some other randoms big bend (stop at the Prada YES a actual Prada store in Marfa TX) Jacobs Pool near Austin TX, The Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas, also FL has some insane clear lagoons, that town in Minnesota that is only accessible through Canada I think it’s Oak island, Lake Superior and find yooperlite (black light makes it glow) the four corners, Grand Canyon… that’s a few but for what y’all would like I’m not sure it depends on what y’all really want to do!

I recommend Picaridin insect repellent. Much better than Deet. Read about it. It's the best! I, too, hate that sticky feeling. It keeps me from sleeping. Yeah the stickiness definitely effects my sleep too. Usually we like to camp somewhere near where there's water so we can do a night rinse. It maybe super cold but it's very refreshing before bed! We'll have to look up Picaridin; thanks so much for the suggestion!

For backpacking snacks, I make my own fruit leather and dehydrated fruit. The dehydrator doesn’t use a lot of energy and the results are cheap and delicious. Watermelon leather is a favorite as is dried apricots. 🍒🫐🍍🍊🍐🍎🍏🍌🍉🍇🍓🥝🥥🍑 I also make waffles for the trail. 🌿

I felt your pain Julie. My grranddog is a Sheba that thinks he's a sled dog. Walking him is a workout on its own let alone adding altitude! The "choking" noise was familiar until he got the right harness. Ben you talk like a real parent even if it's fur kids. "What'd you eat?" 😂 Just give me a heads up where to find you and I'll follow.

@out_there Have you ever tried a "gentle leader"? We had a Vizla that a gentle leader was the only thing that made her settle down and listen to commands. My youngest daughter even got awards for her training with that pup when she was just a year old. Vizlas are like velcro dogs with ADHD. We also had a harness that would tighten when they pulled but you set the limit for it. Looked like Rely had something like that though.

@@philltwose4088 Yes we (Canada) have Chocolate mousse too. I was just kidding with you. Engagement helps out the channel, so I respond to others comments. You seem to have a good sense of humour so I was just joking with you. I was/am Cassandra before YT made this weird change. It kind of messes with who you might have been familiar with before. I don’t know why they did that.
