For me, the reason I watch your channel is because you are genuine and invite us along on your journey. There is a glut of contrived ‘survival’ videos on KZbin. If camping in a lean to shelter is part of your outdoor activities then I’ll watch. I’m less likely to watch $10 Walmart survival videos. Thanks for the content!

@TheMaineWoods I think a well deserved beach destination during your " mud season" is a great idea ☺️. Kids are in school, beaches aren't too bad ( people wise), your still allowed to have dogs on the beach in most places. If Gracie is anything like our lab/pit mix Turbo she will love the ocean !! 🏖️😂

@@TheMaineWoods Cory, when we use to vacation here it was in a house on the back bay area with family members. We had 4 kids and other family had 2 . We would stay at Sunset Beach, NC one of the most beautiful beaches on the southern tip of NC. We'd go to North Myrtle Beach & Myrtle Beach for touristy stuff like Alligator Adventure ( boys, you know snakes, spiders, alligators 🤷🏼‍♀️). Restaurants of every kind. If you like putting putt golf that is every couple miles ! Seafood 😋😋😋. There is Vereen Gardens in Little River near North Myrtle ( free), Myrtle Beach State Park is gorgeous, has beach campsites, nature trails, a fishing pier ( there is a fee to enter). Kayaking the Intercoastal Waterway, jet skiing is really big thing. You can search Myrtle Beach activities for events, entertainment . Prices aren't horrible for most stuff. Sunset Beach is more for spending time at the beach with a few shops on the island & restaurants are on the mainland. We like Holden Beach also. We have family that stays there each summer. Look up North Carolina Brunswick Beaches. We also love, love, love the mountains of NC ( Maggie Valley) . 😁

Good for you! Winter camping is not for the faint of heart. Many years ago I went on a winter backpacking trip with a friend- Mts. Guyot, Bond, and the Bond Cliff- and it nearly ended me. The walk out along the Pemigewasset river was the longest hike of my life. I never want to feel cold like that again.

Always look foward to your videos they are great. My question is in the woods around my camp in Me. are mostly hardwoods not many boughs to use as a roof or bed what would you suggest to fashion a leanto Paul J.
@TheMaineWoods
@TheMaineWoods 13 күн бұрын
A small tarp, plastic sheet, or mylar blanket can be a simple wind/rain covering for shelter and is an easy addition to a pack. heat loss from contact with the ground can cause hypothermia so there needs to be a barrier from that. Evergreen boughs work great for that but if you don't have any you will have to get creative. if you had enough dry leafs that can work. at the very least just being off the ground on small logs or branches is better than nothing, an important element to site selection for a survival shelter is the resources available, making sure you will have the material you will need close by at hand. Just my thoughts, I'm no expert

Great video! I think everyone should learn basic survival skill like this. Showing people how to use a rock to reflect the heat from your fire into your shelter is the type of knowledge that could save a life. Do you filter water from streams or just boil it? I am never quote sure which I should do.
@TheMaineWoods
@TheMaineWoods 13 күн бұрын
In this situation I just boiled which kills bacteria and pathogens but doesn't remove contaminants. Each situation is different. I prefer a pure spring source which doesn't require filtration or purification.
