Years ago I was kneeling at the edge of the woods in some tall grass and after a few seconds I heard a snuffle, like a dog sniffing the dirt. I looked up and a coyote was standing staring at me less than 5 feet away. I had seen and heard numerous coyotes in this area before and never felt afraid. In that moment all I felt was true wonder at the beauty of nature. Glad Ididn’t see this video before that experience.

Having a family BBQ at my dad's (near Boston, MA) was me, my parents, siblings, and 2 little 5 year old girls. Middle of the day and a coyote just walked the edge of the property watching us. We all quietly took turns getting the little ones in the house. Then we went in the house. I assume it was a scout.
@JamesBiggar2 жыл бұрын
It's not a mystery. They're predators and he was prey in the wrong place. That's their house. Different story when they're in yours. Attacks are rare for the same reason bear attacks are rare - because most humans are now urbanized and inexperienced, and don't typically stray into the wilderness where they don't belong.

Just the other day a coyote came down into my neighborhood. A very healthy looking large and well fed coyote. It was honestly gorgeous, but in the early afternoon bright daylight it was kind of shocking. We have some doofy neighborhood kitties who are let outside and they were hanging out on my neighbors driveway oblivious to the coyote. I chased the coyote off 6 times but it kept coming back and finally my neighbor got his kids cap gun and started running towards the coyote firing . It was those loud pops that finally got it to go for good. I walked back along the woods in which the coyote went into and theres a well worn path that goes to the creek behind my place. So its obviously been here before. I'd rather it munch on the invasive Canada geese than the doofy cats.

People aren’t “prey” to coyotes. Fear was the cause of the attack, predators sense this and go into dominant mode, prey sense fear and run away. Most important confronting predators in the wild is to not be afraid, take the alpha role immediately by not expressing the feeling of fear, easier said than done.

Coyotes attack cats, not for food, but to get rid of a competitor. Fla panthers love coyote meat, I believe it's their population decline that has allowed the coyote to penetrate into Fl as it has. I protect my cats, I believe it's both a moral and legal responsibility. If a human hurts my cat they're in for a fun time either in the street or a courthouse, why should a coyote have more rights and consideration than a human?
