Also: it is worth building solar panels even before you have accumulators. Sure, they don't produce energy at night, but Factorio's day is longer than its night, so using solar in day and steam at night is still more than a 2/3rds reduction in pollution.

It's better than a 2/3rd reduction, it's more like a 9/10th reduction, because drilling the coal and powering the drills with the coal you drilled is extremely inefficient, to the point that it only takes roughly an hour for a solar panel to pay for it self in terms of pollution in deathworld, and add a little steam tank to your boilers and suddenly you can get away with 1/3 the boilers, because they'll keep running throughout the day to refill the tank, which is very convenient.

@@SimonWoodburyForget No, it's still a 2/3rd reduction. A solar panel produces 60kw in full sunlight, but only an average of 42kw over a full Factorio day. In the absence of accumulators, the remaining power has to come from steam. Yes, reducing your steam usage reduces your pollution cloud by more than just the pollution of the boilers, but you're still only reducing that pollution by a bit over 2/3rds by going from all-steam to solra-day-steam-night. (Well, technically you can get a bit better than a 2/3rds reduction. Solar panels don't just *shut off* at sunset and turn on at daybreak; they ramp down during dusk and up during dawn. Thus, if you have more solar panels than you actually need to power your factory in full daylight, there will be a part of down and dusk where the steam plant doesn't need to run at all. But realistically, by the time you have the production and space to build more solar than you need in the day, you'll be building accumulator farms and ditching steam entirely.)

Thanks! It's one of my first videos, i guess i'll make a new guide once the expansion is out. I hope Deathworld is still a thing in space age and we get new technologies to defend. :)

Cool vid. Rushing flamethrowers is basically the whole point of a deathworld, which is why I will always use the flwmethrower turret rebalance mod, which makes them do 1/5th the damage and consume 5 times the amount of fuel. And flamethrowers are still pretty good. It really makes the challenge last all the way through the game which I love. Highly reccomend the mod. Also haven’t played a deathworld since space age, I wonder how things like rocket turrets will affect the game, and there were s ton of combat rebalances.

The most effective strategy for easily getting through the game in deathworld is keeping pollution from reaching nests and then killing as many nests as possible while expanding the lightest possible gun turret defense parameter. If turrets are sitting on the edge of a pollution barrier, then you can keep it as light as 1 turret per chunk, which is a very small amount of turrets. You can keep up this defense efficiency by researching all military science as early as possible to keep up with evolution. You do not even technically need a wall, because bitters will never walk across a turret without first attacking it, so you can leave giant holes in between the walls and save up on a significant amount of walls which you can then dump into military science. The primary goal of a very lightly armed wall is to prevent bitters from expanding, so you can clean up as many nests as you want, and expansion parties are significantly smaller, so a single turret will easily be able to deal with it. You don't even technically need flamethrowers by using this strategy, because attacks are going to end up being too small for flamethrowers to deal with anyways. It's not like you want to be constantly repairing walls before you get bots anyways, so this saves you quite a lot of time, which is great if you're a lazy bum like myself.

This doesn't work in a desert because pollution will just spread to more and bigger nests. I'm trying to give advice that works regardless of the world generated by any given seed.

Rushing flamethrowers is the only strat that actually matters. Like sure this stuff matters, but you should have flamers before hour two and once you do you're literally unkillable. The waves can grow basically infinitely large and it just doesnt matter. Switch to Light oil and never give a shit again. Make a GW on boiler power. It won't matter

I have played a bit of Death world and regular but usually i just go with no biters and no pollutions. Its better for performance and its less tedious when destroying enemy bases. But i have not tried Death world with mods and max expansion.... maybe..

noob question: does biters attak rails or pipes outside base? how to defend outpost early game for let say oil

No they don't attack power poles, rails and pipes. Usually. There is a possibility for biters to get stuck and then attack an object blocking them. It's rare though. The best way to defend an oil outpost is using flamethrowers. At the end of Megabase episode 1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYKbZmCYotWHn68 you can see me build 4 flamethrowers to defend the oil outpost.
