Surviving Among Wolves: A Shepherd’s Life in the Mountains

Independent and dedicated to his craft, shepherd Mykhailo lives in the stunning Carpathian Mountains, where every day brings new challenges from nature. His farm is home to over 100 sheep, dozens of goats, horses, cows, pigs, and rabbits. Together with his wife and children, he works tirelessly to care for his animals, protecting them from the dangers of the wild, including wolves.
In this video, you’ll see Mykhailo tending his sheep, herding them across the breathtaking Carpathian pastures, shoeing his horses by hand, and drinking fresh spring water from the heart of nature. This is a story of resilience, dedication to tradition, and finding harmony in the wilderness.

75 years ago, in USA on a farm like yours. #1 This is like I lived 75 years ago in USA - Story back then - Mom and Dad often visited a pair of friends in Greentown, about half a mile towards Faytown. The elderly siblings, a brother and sister, lived there. Their other brother, a truck driver, wasn’t around much. I was eager to play outside, but Mom insisted I stay on the front porch. Determined to make the most of my confinement, I grabbed something to keep me entertained.

Actually, this is not Romanian, but a dialect from the Zakarpattia region in Ukraine. While Ukrainian does have some Latin influence, the language you hear here is part of the Ukrainian family with its own unique dialect. Zakarpattia dialects are influenced by various languages due to the region's diverse history, including Hungarian, Slovak, and Romanian. It's quite different from Romanian, but I appreciate your interest! 😊

But/ Romanian is indeed a Romance language, and while it shares many Latin-based features with other Romance languages like Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, it has also been influenced by Slavic languages, Greek, Turkish, and others over time. Some elements of Latin grammar and vocabulary are preserved in Romanian that may be less prominent in languages like Spanish or Italian. However, it's not entirely accurate to say it has "more Latin"-it's just that Romanian retained certain features and vocabulary that were lost in the other languages due to historical influences.
