The videographers said they didn't know WHY she told them about her earlier rape. I have the answer. In my aunt's late 70s she blurted out loud to me that her grandfather had molested her. I've enjoyed this video several times and again this morning. My mother was russian. She left her family home in 1942 at the age of 18, never to see her mother, father, and relatives again. She talked of childhood visits to her grandparents in Siberia. Agafia's life reminds me of these stories. Began reading comments to find out if there has been any news of Agafia since making this video, but there are so many negative comments that I almost cry. I can't read anymore. I learned a lot from this lady. I have milk goats, chickens, ducks, and a garden. I am going to gather more branches for the goats to eat, and grow potatoes next year, and I may try cutting down some small trees in the woods. She has so many skills. Fishing. Hunting. Chopping down trees. Weaving. Making flour. Cooking rustically. And she prays and sings to God during chores. It is too bad that she has no help. It is a miracle of her faith that has kept her going, I think. What an inspiration.

Yes, and what a nice calm little beast. I looked at that goat. I think that goat was a boyfriend for her milk goats. Goats can inbreed pretty well, but after some generations they need a new contibution to the gene pool, or the babies will be weak and die young. You know, animals can be very affectionate and emotional, and caring in their own way. I bet they help her survive. I love my goats.They can be nicer than people. Her cats seem to be very friendly with her, too

I am so happy that young Russian people as part of a volunteer program at their university continue to assist Agafya survive and remain in her home in the taiga wilderness. I have followed her story for the last couple of years and now find it is sad to learn that her health is starting to fail. She is a wonderful example of truly lived Christianity albeit according to the customs of the Old Believers from the Eastern Russian Orthodox Church which, as a Westerner, is difficult for me to understand, but I am learning!

I lived on my own in a city (Sydney) of 5 million until 2018. You could die in your bed and it would take days for someone to notice. I have my daughter and her partner. They moved me up to a small community on the coast. They come up and visit. I sometimes go down when I have saved from my government pension for the petrol. I have a son who moved to Canada. I have not seen him for three years but I could never afford the airfare to visit him. Being an only child I am used to be on my own. I have very little money but I don't want for anything. “Even”... ? The one place were you can be sure of violence (although opportunistic rapist may be exaggerated. I am not sure if he raped her... he would probably be dead if he did) is in nature. As for why nobody has taken him away... You are going to intervene in the lives of these people when both of them have chosen to live in nature, away from the intervention of the outside world? The entire point is being left alone (or at least now it is. The original purpose for escaping to Siberia was another). They accepted to survive without the help of society. It seems to me she can defend herself. Btw, the man is dead now.

In the wild there is no law enforcement. You should EXPECT people to do deplorable things away from civilization, not the other way around. Why would it be that it is less likely to be raped in the woods? Thus I think it is much safer if you are surrounded with thousands of people each of who has 0.5% chance of raping you, than with 5 people each of who has 50% chance of doing that...

@@MizTheDonGargon russia have low criminality rate, especially for rape, the sentence for rape is also harsh. There is 3,5k rapes per year in russia, now compare it with other countries like france that have 19k per year and brazil with 60k. Westerns should stop pointing the finger in russia and other eastern european countries like if they were so much better and see the mess that is happening in their own countries.

It's sad to say it, but people like this wouldn't be able to live in a city/civilization again for one big reason, that main reason is as she said, every time she visited she fell ill. Being excluded for this long means that her immune system has no adapted to modern life, it has however definitely adapted to the wilderness. The most important part is that she's happy with the life she has at the end of the day.
