I have heard of a mother's instincts being amazing but I've never heard of a mom who made literally every split second decision so perfectly. A lot of it was chance, but there were also choices to be made. So I have so much respect for that woman. I hope she doesn't have any regrets with how she handled things. What a hero. I know you cant control how you land totally, but she even cushioned the impact for her daughter supposedly. So cool.

@@jennifermcgoldrick6323 Right?? Some people have criticized her for not saving both of them, and I'm like...hm...how many other people managed to survive this collapse, among those who were actually on the side of the building that collapsed?? It was literally a matter of split second decisions that saved them, and even then, she could have just tried to save herself, but didn't.
@elsie3724

@@deprofundis3293 WHAT that is devastating to think she got criticism!!! The fact she was even able to get up and her daughter is unbelievable. I’m sure she lives each day wishing she could have saved Edgar too - anyone would - but I hope she knows she did the MOST anyone could possibly do. And hearing about the kind of person Edgar is - and hopefully any parent - she did EXACTLY what he would have wanted her to do in that situation. Grab your children, they are your priority. If I was in a situation like this and my husband would have had to spend another split second to grab me, I would never want him to do so over the life of our daughter. But again I’m sure it’s so hard for them all. Just such a devastating situation and so unfair. I’m so sad to hear she was getting criticism like she somehow did anything less than what any parent would and should do PLUS considering that it was even a miracle she was able to do even that.

Right? Not only is Jonah living right down the street, but he's also living in a sister tower with the same floor plan. Everything about his daily life would be a constant reminder. And, despite that building being inspected and supposedly in decent shape, there's no way in hell I could be that kid and not constantly worry that his dad's building would ultimately collapse on me as well.
@jus10lewissr

Also: There's several towers there with that exact floor plan with one being a mirrored image but even if it's the one with the mirrored plan, it would still be terrifying to live in it and do more harm to him than good in regards to healing and moving on. I just can't imagine walking around -- and living in -- a building identical to the one that collapsed, injuring me and killing me mother.

Devin was a friend of mine in elementary school and middle school because we played volleyball together and once we entered different highschools, we parted ways. To see her in a tragedy like this breaks my heart. Her father was such a good man. He would always come to every game and cheer us on. This absolutely breaks my heart, from a friends perspective. Dad should definitely move out of Champlain Towers. It is adding to his Son's Panic and Anxiety. The Panic Attacks during Thunderstorms is a symptom of it. Right now the Trauma is grinding at his Subconscious 24 hours a day and every time he leaves and enters the area as a whole. It has his system in Hyper Vigilance and is contributing to his PTSD. Dad sell the Condo. Relocate to a property that is the polar opposite. You will see your Son begin to heal.

12:30 "I remember Scotty turning to me and saying; "Hey. This could be it" And, I turned to him and said; "I know. But we got a job to do." And he just said; "Okay." - Can we just take a moment to realize that these two men were, in their own way, saying goodbye to one another just in case they wouldn't make it back alive? I pray these 2 teens ultimately succeed & live a long happy life.

Such an inspirational story. This family is full of love. Sad to see the loving dad and the dog didn't make it but I am sure they are together. The cat is such a heartwarming baby. Glad the kitty survives the unthinking to bring comfort to this family. Much love to this family.

So glad that Binks the cat, and his human mother and sisters, survived the Surfside collapse. Please microchip your pets, so that shelters and veterinary clinics can scan them and call you immediately, should they show up at a shelter or vet clinic., brought in by a rescuer. You will be contacted immediately by the scanning entity, to be reconciled with your pet, and there will be no question of your pet's identity. Do not depend on collars and tags to identify your pet, as they can be damaged or come off, during a traffic accident, or other type of accident.

I don’t know any of the Surfside survivors in person but I must say I’ve followed this story ever since it happened. I cried so much watching this doc. I’m so glad they are thriving and recovering at their own pace, surrounded by wonderful people and pets too 💕. These stories of resilience, love, solidarity, strength, community, hope, and beautiful families teach us so much about life and reflect all the goodness in people’s hearts. Thank you 💐🤍⚡️

I followed it on the Building Integrity: youtube channel. That guy is super knowledgeable. I even liked how he not only talked about the building, but the mindset of the industry in the 70s when building the towers, and how materials maintenance, or lack there of, can cause a building to perform.

Such a well put together story covering this tragedy. I remember hearing about Jonah, Deven and her mom surviving. And how Binx was found. This story shows the struggles, devastation, determination and love for all of these survivors. Their families, friends, rescuers, Drs, therapists, coaches, etc are all amazing. I hope Jonah, Deven and Angela will all fully heal with little to no pain. I wish Neil the strength to continue helping Jonah through the loss of his mother and his anxiety when hearing thunder. Living in Florida in the summertime you have many thunderstorms. I live in Pasco county on the Gulf Coast. I wish Taylor the strength to continue helping both her sister and mother through their physical recovery and for all three to be able to keep the memories of their dad/husband alive. I wish eternal peace for all who died and for comfort to surround their loved ones. I cried when this tragedy happened and as each soul was found. Hoping like everyone else that more survivors would be found.

I can't believe it's been a year. It feels like yesterday so I can't imagine how they feel. I am crying for these people. That night I was so upset for all of these people. PTSD is hard but the longer you live the better it gets. I have PTSD from a failing heart at 15. I had a transplant. It took a long time for me to feel better. I still have it though. I really wish I could do something for those that survived or have lost someone.

David...keep working on overcoming your PTSD. Do not wind up"old" like me. I had a fear of not having ground level escape exits and being forced in old age to live with a back area two floor above ground..no one gave me a pass and I needed housing badly. I gritted my teeth, sweated and finally was able to sleep. I was angry that no one had any understanding. Now..I am happy because the same person who had no understanding is a nosy apartment manager who peers into back entrances ! Mine is private and I can keep my blinds open and door open for air. Plus...we have bear here who come around at doors. Now I consider my balconey a priviledge ! You went through a really big procedure and trauma since age 15. Now you have learned so much through your experience ! I worked as a nurse in an post op open heart intensive care unit. And have much respect for your experience !

As someone who lost their entire town, home and world due to a massive forest fire, My family and I have ptsd. It is a daily reminder that we are not invincible. Life is so fragile and you honestly cannot understand the shift that happens after a disaster. You can no longer wear rose colored glasses. You realize that even though you told your kids, nothing will ever bad happen as long as I am around, is a lie. Our youngest child who is Autistic was trapped in Paradise ca and was the last child evacuated in Paradise. He watched from his special needs bus, his entire home burn to the ground. Not being able to know if he was alive for 10hrs was gutting. We were told he couldnt be located. Life can change in the blink of an eye. Im grateful we lost no family member. 89 people were killed that had family to account for. The real number are probably into the 100’s. Most could only be identified through DnA in their ashes, found in their homes. 1000’s of animals died, forest as well as domestic. The entire thing is a tragedy. The company responsible for the fire filed bankruptcy, we got a settlement and four years later we only received half. The settlement was much lower then it should of been. Its not the money I want, it is the innocence we had. Meaning, I wish that I believed I could keep my children safe at all times. Even my marriage almost fell apart because I couldn’t get happy, I was so distraught that I couldn’t find joy. Thankfully, I still have moments of panic but overall I am in a much better place.
