My golden rule for survival to protect yourself from River Monsters in the Australian bush. This is a must do thing anytime you decide to take water for a natural river, as you never know, what may be lurking in the depths waiting for you.

Wise words indeed and delivered in a very entertaining manner. You should approach some local primary schools and see if you can sell the video to them as an educational documentary. 😂😂

If one finds themselves without a UV pen or straw filter, fill up & then leave the clear plastic water bottle out in the sun for 5-6 hours, less if you have reflective foil or similar...

Last season I was camping next to a river and upstream was a dead deer stuck under a fallen tree in the middle of the river. Drinking downstream from that could be a problem. Lifestraw is ok, but trying to suck water directly out of the river is annoying, you need to almost lay down which in the cold and wet is bad

They are my water socks. Good for hikes to keep the shoes dry while not ripping your feet apart on the rocks when crossing rivers.

So true. 😂 A little known tip is wearing your helmet whilst purifying your water can increase your survival chances from river monster attacks.

When you get those little buggers in you....when you need to go...you gotta go....NOW.....when I was young we drank out of every stream we fished in...not now, no where, not worth the chance. Garth

Funny I've drunken water from creeks plenty of times, both out bush and in agricultural areas (cattle). Never got sick or anything. Might be due to growing up in the country where there was always something decomposing in the water tanks, rats, cane toads and the odd unlucky possum. I do sanitate water now though, theres nothing to loose doing it and a lot to loose by not having basic water hygiene. Quick question on those 2 occasion you drank creek water, did you collect the water from near stagnant or still areas of the creek or from quick running water (like over a rock feature)?
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer 2 ай бұрын
No, both times from what I would call the freshest cleanest flowing rivers. I have drunk from 100s of rivers with never an issue until recently. Learnt my lesson that’s for sure.

I think it is a bit of pot luck with creeks. I also grew up on untreated water. We also found a dead possum in the gutter and the water would come out of the tap a muddy brown after every storm. Never got sick. Only time I got sick was drinking out of the creek in Walhalla.... unfortunately I think that creek had raw sewage draining into it. I was vomiting for days.
