Small fish and small animals are well suited for survival cooking. Throw the entire animal in the fire, flip after 3 minutes, then 3 more. The scales and skin almost fall off, pick through the flesh and avoid what you don't want to eat. We have a lot of gar here in Texas, the scales interlock and have very high silica content, it's easy to ruin the edge on a good knife trying to scale them. Cooking in the fire breaks down the connective tissue between the scales, they come off like a zipper. Thank you for the great video!

I found some thin plastic sheet "emergency thermal blankets/sheets" at the dollar store. Folded up it's 1/3 the size of a cellphone. For a couple of bucks, throw a couple of those into each one of your packs. Doesn't take up space, doesn't weigh anything. Serves to keep warm, helps waterproof your improv shelter, catch rainwater, can even keep you dry if you have no rain jacket, or is you do, keep your lower body dry when sleeping. Maybe throw in one of those cheap rain ponchos that fold up really small too. Each one of those takes up no more total volume than a couple of those lighters.
@ZippedUpKitz2 ай бұрын
I have three of each in my pack! One to wrap,up,in if it’s cold, one to use as a shelter and one to use for holding water… the ponchos are for basically the same… I like the hood on the poncho to collect water… wear one to keep dry and the other can be used to make water out of a solar still if you cannot find a water source nearby… you can even use one of the Mylar blankets to intensify the humidity or heat for the solar still! Those two items are always part of my survival bags and my camping gear! I Never ever go without them… I even keep several of them in the trunk of our car!
